Hello,

is the Surface 8 Pro compatible with PCIe 4 drives or can I only use PCIe 3 ssd?

If not all drives are compatible, which drives work?

    Could you please let me know which update fixed the issue (a link or KB number)?

    That way I could read it and try to figure out if it will help me before buying the drive.

    Any link to a trustworthy store that sells 2TB drives will also be very much appreciated.

    Does anybody in this chat know about success cases of PCI 4 SSDs used without major hassle after applying such update on Surface Pro 8?

    the ssd size shouldn't matter plus this information is outdated now since i heard they fixed the ssd issue in an update so you shouldn't use it unless the update didnt fix anything for you and for the changes done to the power settings the only downside is that your battery life wont be great since the bg5 ssd is faster and uses more power, i noticed that the same settings doesnt work for everyone so after you install the power options you gotta test and see which one works for your ssd but then again the update should have fixed all of that. my ssd is bg5 512gb, i recommend that you buy the ssd from ebay but always before you buy ask the seller about the speed of the ssd cause thats what matters the most since not all ssds are made the same

    I have few doubts if you allow me:

    • Which are the side effects of the changes done to energy settings?
    • in your case, the SN740 drive was 1TB or 2TB?
    • Have you received input from people following your instructions? Has it always worked, any limitation/problem?

    I tried too with this procedure... with Kioxia BG5, but no work.

    BSOD or other errors every time.

    Even on ac current or in battery mode.

    I also tried the procedure described and was perfect since I have the power plugged, as I use battery, in sllep mode, reboots...

    does someone use other settings to keep the surface alive with this drive. Aslo seems to drain more battery

    (WD SN 740 - very very fast, but not reliable)
