Surface 8 Pro - new SSD - compatibility with PCIe 4

Unfortunately this did not actually work for me. It helped the install go through to Windows, but any updates after that would send it into hard BSDO + boot-loop mode. Can't even boot to USB, or if it does, the USB installer screen is completely non-responsive. Nothing can be clicked/touched, does not respond to keyboard (including to open the command prompt with Shift-F10), cannot be exited, etc.

Updated: Tried a few more times and eventually got into USB in an responsive way. I repeated the steps and noticed that some of the reg values got reset, so I set them again. Also, this time the diskpart disk/volume numbers were slightly different than before, so anyone running it from the script should double-check.

No luck.

So I manually added the above key that wasn't available by default, and set the values as recommended. Then it took a few more restarts for Windows to fix itself, and now I managed to get back into the full system.

Wasn't available on my machine, but it worked fine by applying all the other changes.

SP8 has widely reported stability problems with PCIe 4.

If you want more storage and a stable system, stay with a Gen3 SSD in the SP8.

We recently upgraded 2 x SP8 i7/16/256 LTE to 1TB Samsung PM991a SSD ( Part No MZ9LQ1T0HBLB-00B00 ) and both are working well. We got similar real world speeds using winsat disk between the Kioxia BG4 and Samsung PM991a when mounted in the SP8. So still only Gen3 performance but they are working well.

I have same settings and everything is ok.

Only the hibernate scheme doesn't work weel: It close all the apps. And the battery consumption is 10%-15% upper than with the consumption with the original drive (tested in real life use of the Office suite, with 2 same surface pro 8, one with the original SSD et one with the WDSN740).

I've been using the 2TB WD PC SN740 SDDPTQE-2T00 Firmware 73102000 for a couple of months now. It isn't as reliable as the original SSD which was more stable but much slower.

I've listed the Surface config below.
I have the Link State set to DIPM.
I have the PCIe Link State set to Off.

The only power issues I run into are power downs. It sometimes fails and runs the weird slow blue recover circle (not sure what that is). Sleep is also unreliable. I've learnt to just restart and it boots. The only annoying issue is it sometimes powers up and drains the battery.

Also - probably most important - the unreliable power up/downs could result in corrupted Bitlocker keys (salvagable) or MBR (I was not able to salvage that). So BitLocker has to be turned off.

I mostly use my Surface as a desktop (with a dock etc.) so it doesn't bother me as much. Just when turning it before travelling with it I wait a few minutes to ensure it stays off. Sort of annoying but not a disaster.

I hope Microsoft or WD eventually solve this. I know Dell and Lenovo had firmware updates for the SN 740 but not sure it was the same issue. They cannot be installed on the OEM device. (at least I was unsuccessful).
