Surface Pro 4, Screen Flickering, Shaking

I purchased SP4 device a few months ago and it was working fine for a month. Then I noticed that when the CPU is at its max, the screen flickers a bit. Investigating further revealed that it flickers even if it is setting idle. It does not flicker if at least one of the following thing is done:

  1. A video being played in browser 
  2. If I keep the touch screen busy by either taping it or keeping a finger on it
  3. If I use the touchpad
  4. If keyboard is used for typing

This resulted in making the device completely unusable while reading articles or ebooks. I am a developer, most of the time I have to read the code and to do that, I have to constantly keep a finger on the touch pad or the screen. I contacted surface support in October and November and was told that the developers are working on the patch. Looking at the updates the developers are pushing since then, I don't think anyone is even aware of the problem there.

Just wondering if anyone else had the same problem (and the fix) and if not, what's the procedure for the refund? I will rather go for a mac then sacrificing $2000+ for a dancing screen.

    Hi guys,

    In short: To me, the driver/firmware update on Oct. 12th helps a little bit, this issue didn't get fixed but I could use my SP4 longer without flickering.

    Hello everybody unlucky to choose Microsoft Surface! 

    update on Oct. 12th did not help the problem at all! 

    Moreover this update makes Artifacts and displays badly vector files in Adobe Illustrator CC. I had to roll back the video drivers to 7/6/2016    20.19.15.4463  , the new driver does not perform well in Adobe Illustrator CC creating artifacts..(( So bad everything with my Surface experience.. many many issues, and getting worse from every new update(( I regret so much to have it. Never ever again I'll get a Microsoft computer...

    Spontaneous double-clicking, very poor pressure sensitivity in Adobe illustrator (I can compare to my previous Lenovo think pad, which was perfect with it..), and now - flickering... OMG.. 1,5 year of usage and I need to buy a new tablet now. Great. Thank you Microsoft.

    Hi Nick,

    We would like to distinguish if the flickering issue is software or hardware related. Can you confirm if the issue persists with other application aside from Adobe Lightroom 5? Have you tried checking if the screen flickers in UEFI settings?

    For now, we suggest that you check if the Duet Display is installed on your device. If the Duet Display is in the app lists, kindly uninstall it and see if the issue will be resolved.

    I liken this issue to the problems that beset the initial batches of the surface pro 4.

    the machine i am currently using was a replacement for the above problem, over the last week i have been noticing a small row of pixels at the bottom 5-10mm of the screen flicker at random, not related to the program or display mode operating at the time. it is not constant yet so doesn't inhibit working at the moment but this is exactly how my early surface pro 4 started to fail.

    im hoping its an update clash which ive unknowingly installed causing the bug? and not a bug designed by microsoft to make me buy the new version....
