Surface Pro Flex Keyboard Charging issues

I've seen multiple other posts on this, but I'm confused as to Microsoft doesn't issue an update.

I have the new Surface Pro 11, with the Flex Keyboard. The keyboard does NOT charge when I attach the keyboard to the device when the device is not plugged into a charger.

The keyboard does NOT charge when the deviced is plugged into a charger, and the keyboard is closed (sleep mode).

It only charges (and even this is sporatic) when the keyboard is attached and the device is plugged into a charger. Sometimes it will charge, other times it will not. I have yet to find a pattern, but that is the only time it will charge (and that is still only about 1/2 of the time).

I have tried all the basic trouble shooting (cleaing the connectors, ESC key for 5 seconds to turn off keyboard, updated all firmware). This is obviously an issue that Microsoft is ignoring.

Any ideas would be welcome, but my thought is that it just doesn't charge like it's supposed to, and nothing is really going to change that...

Ditto to all you and the others said. The battery issue is a pain. In my experience, the keyboard ONLY charges when: (a) the Surface Pro is on; and (b) the Surface Pro is connected to the Surface Charger. When I turn off the Surface Pro, I cannot get the keyboard to charge even if the Surface Pro is connected to and stored with the charger on. The SP stays charged, but the keyboard power just trickles down.

As to the issue of it becoming unresponsive, one thing I have found is that it goes to sleep after a short period and is unresponsive. To "wake it up," I have had success by hitting the "windows" key. After I tap that key, the rest of the keyboard wakes up.

Another problem I had was with the trackpad. I could not get it to scroll on pages using two fingers. MS Support did help me resolve that. Here is what they did (after doing the usual to make sure I had all the updates): (1) Close all important stuff and save your open documents, etc.; (2) Open Task Manager (using ctrl-alt-del or whatever method you wish); (3) Click on the "Processes" tab (tabs on left) if it is not already selected (it is normally the default tab selected); (c) Go to the bottom of the list of processes until you see the folder for "Windows Explorer"; (d) click on "Windows Explorer"; (e) on the upper bar, click on "restart task"; (f) hold down the power button until the screen goes completely black (that hard re-starts everything); (g) wait 30 seconds; (h) turn the computer back on. At least for me, that re-set of whatever got re-set made it where scrolling with the trackpad worked again.

    Ugh on the battery issue.

Same problem as everyone else, January 7, 2025, not charging consistently, no notice battery is low until the trackpad stops working. Extremely disappointing for a premium priced product, especially when the Surface Pro is such a wonderful device. Also, it should have a dedicated charging port for when it's not attached to the tablet. The battery is not going to last nearly as long as the tablet battery, since I mostly plug in the tablet and detach the keyboard. The typing & trackpad experience is good, but I regret the purchase (for the price to value ratio).

Mine is BRAND NEW straight out of the box (along with a brand new surface pro 11) and bought directly from Microsoft themselves so it’s not a refurbished one and the keyboard WILL NOT CHARGE. I spent $400 on this thing (it came with the pen) and it DOES NOT CHARGE. I’ve tried all of the troubleshooting tricks I’ve found on the internet too, ESC key, disconnecting and reconnecting, all of it. Nothing. And my surface has been plugged into the charger and keyboard plugged into the surface this whole time. (Other than when I was detaching them). I don’t understand.

The Surface pro 11 is full of holes - its a joke that Microsoft put out a product which in many instances is not compatible with its own software! Try using print to Onenote on an ARM chipped Surface Pro - isn't available. I had to go back to classic Outlook because after hours wasted Microsoft told me there was an issue with new Outlook and multiple email addresses on business exchange platforms with ARM based Surface pro 11.

These are just a few issues. They don't tell you tis when you buy what is meant to be a premium product.

I have had Surface Pro's for 10 years - this is the last one.

Microsoft should come clean and buck their ideas up.

I am having the same problem. I have my Surface Pro 11 connected via the Microsoft Hub (itself a pricey hub that also charges the Surface Pro 11). The keyboard apparently does NOT charge. Does that mean I have to have the hub AND the charger on at the same time? Not doing that was the point of getting the expensive hub.
