Docking station 4 - external screen does not wake up after falling in sleep mode

I am connecting my Surface Pro 3 on the new docking station (for Surface Pro 3 and 4). And all this is connected to a DELL external monitor.

After some time the Surface Pro 3 falls into sleep mode and if I wait not too long I can wake it up using my Bluetooth mouse; which activates the docking station and the external screen.

But if I wait for too long my mouse cannot wake up my external screen (mouse wakes up Surface Pro 3 for sure and docking is always up) and I need to disconnect my docking station from Surface and reconnect it; then my display is activated again.

Any ideas?

I would like to say that it was the former but it looks more like the later. Every once in a while a Microsoft employee comes in and tells us to reinstall drivers, reset the device to factory defaults or call MS support but other than that there is very little input from the company.

I have the same problem with the Surface docking and two external monitors, one HP and one ASUS. The HP will (most times) wake up if I turn it off and on again, but with the ASUS I have to disconnect both the powercord and the Displayport cord. My temporary solution is to use a small program called Caffeine when I am connected to power, to keep my Surface 4 from falling to sleep. But this problem is really annoying and time consuming, so I hope Microsoft is working on a solution. http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/caffeine/

    Hello Tex Royale,

Thank you for reaching out to the Surface community. Have you tried installing the latest updates that were released yesterday?

    Best Regards

The "Have you installed latest updates?" question is tiresome. In Windows 10 automatic updates  and with the Surface updater utility this is a meaningless question. According to my updater there was not a Surface dock update in May. Both my Surface Book and my Surface Dock are up to date.

Oddly this was not a problem for me UNTIL the May Windows 10 updates.

I have an Asus 4k monitor and Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse attached to the Surface Dock.

There are no attachments to the Surface Book except the Surface Dock.

I have power settings to sleep the monitor after 10 minutes and never sleep the computer while on power.

Within a certain period, maybe an hour or two, I can wake the external monitor with the mouse after windows has put the screen in sleep mode.

    The computer never sleeps.

After long periods, maybe an hour or two and especially overnight, I can no longer wake the external monitor with the mouse.  The laptop is awake.

Current (irritating) fix is to disconnect the power/dock cable, then reconnect. Of course that sometimes causes sizing issues going from QHD to 4K.

The Surface Dock is not recognizing an external monitor is attached and sending a signal after some period of sleep, but I haven't found a way to control the Surface Dock or manage attached devices. My theory is that the surface sleeps the monitor and after some period of time something in the dock stops recognizing an attached monitor so that there is not a monitor to "wake" when it resumes screen activity.

I did try setting the xHCI USB Root Hub to "Never Sleep" and there was no change.

Like I said, after the February updates everything stabilized for me, then in May Win10 updates this started happening.
