Surface Pro 8 camera issues; have to constantly disable and re-enable camera driver to get it to work
I've had an on-going issue with my surface pro 8 since I first got it about 20 months ago. The camera will stop working, light will stay on. This happens quite frequently, up to a few times per hour sporadically while using the camera. I've only really been bothered by this more recently as I've been using the camera more for work.
Both front and rear-facing cameras will cease working when this happens.
Disabling and re-enabling the camera driver solves the problem temporarily, making me think it's a driver issue. I've previously attempted to uninstall and install the latest drivers to no effect.
Thank you for your time in this matter.

2024-01-19T00:58:13+00:00 Yeah, it's always clearly precanned answers on this site. I have never actually been able to find a solution to anything here, because Microsoft's support just keeps spamming the threads with non-constructive advice. Reddit and random internet forum usually seem to have better answers, but not this time. Since this is a Microsoft device, it would be nice if they actually took the time to fix their damned camera driver.

2024-01-19T00:48:40+00:00 It seems like IT is a bot of some sorts, they're clearly not actually reading posts. Like, op quite literally mentioned how they reinstalled the driver, and then they reply to you thinking you're the OP? I'm going to keep an eye on this. If someone finds a driver that actually works, please let me know!

2024-01-19T00:16:28+00:00 Thank you, Christopher, but I’m not going to reinstall the entire OS on the slim hope that it fixes the issue. This bug is widely reported in multiple forums. Please escalate this to the appropriate dev team instead.

2024-01-18T17:38:49+00:00 Hi ExcitingCameraProblems
Thank you for following all the steps we’ve sent you so far. We appreciate your efforts, but the issue still persists. To ensure that the issue is not caused by software, we recommend downloading and running the USB recovery image on your Surface device. This will perform a fresh installation of Windows specific to your Surface device and clear out any issues on the device.
To Download USB Recovery Image - http://aka.ms/sri
REQUIREMENTS:
To ensure compatibility with your Surface device, it is recommended to use a USB flash drive with a minimum storage capacity of 16 GB to 32 GB and format it to FAT32. If the storage capacity exceeds 32 GB, it is not possible to format it to FAT32 as only XFAT and NTFS options are available. Please note that if a USB flash drive is formatted to XFAT or NTFS, it will not be detected on your Surface device.
NOTE: Creating a recovery drive will erase all existing files that are stored on the SSD drive. Make sure to transfer any important data on your USB flash drive to another storage device before you proceed.
Once the download is complete, create a folder on your desktop and rename it to ‘recovery’. Extract the recovery image to the folder you created on your desktop. After the extraction is complete, select all the files in the folder and copy and paste them directly to your USB flash drive. Do not copy the folder directly to the USB. Once the copying is done, remove the USB and connect it to your Surface.
When you are ready, please click this link Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support to follow the step on how to use the recovery image.
Thank you for your understanding.
Christopher
