Surface Pro 8 camera issues; have to constantly disable and re-enable camera driver to get it to work
I've had an on-going issue with my surface pro 8 since I first got it about 20 months ago. The camera will stop working, light will stay on. This happens quite frequently, up to a few times per hour sporadically while using the camera. I've only really been bothered by this more recently as I've been using the camera more for work.
Both front and rear-facing cameras will cease working when this happens.
Disabling and re-enabling the camera driver solves the problem temporarily, making me think it's a driver issue. I've previously attempted to uninstall and install the latest drivers to no effect.
Thank you for your time in this matter.

2024-02-15T17:18:39+00:00 Have the same issues with my SP8. None of the suggested troubleshooting steps fix the issues. It's especially an issue when the camera crashes completely during videoconferencing - Zoom will lock up and/or crash completely. Please escalate addressing camera stability on SP8 and other affected models.

2024-01-19T23:44:42+00:00 Hi ExcitingCameraProblems,
Thank you for your response. I understand that you are hesitant to download the recovery image to fix the issue further since you have a lot of files and apps that need to be backed up. We provide instructions on how to download and install the recovery image on your Surface device. This is the last step we follow if the camera still isn’t working. Although we would love to provide steps on this issue under the registry in Windows, we are restricted from doing so. This is a limitation here in the Microsoft community. We can only provide steps in the registry if the troubleshooting is properly documented or if we have a reference.
If you prefer not to download the recovery image, another option to resolve the issue is to contact our Live support team at Microsoft. They will personally check your device by remotely accessing it and examining all your settings to fix the issue in real-time.
To contact the live support team.

2024-01-19T10:31:14+00:00 That's actually a good tip until Microsoft fixes the driver issue. I will do the same thing.

2024-01-19T09:18:49+00:00 Unfortunately, we all know it's a driver issue at play and the issue won't be fixed until Microsoft fix the driver. It sucks to be stuck like this, but in the meantime I've set up a script to disable and reenable the camera driver quickly so I don't have too much camera downtime... lol...
