Surface Pro 7 randomly freezes while using the Zoom app

Brand new surface pro for about 2 weeks and I've experienced some random freezes while using the Zoom teaching app. For some reason, each time this happens the audio continues to work but nothing on the surface screen or keyboard is responsive and I'm forced to shutdown and restart each time. Support recommended that I run a recovery tool but that didn't do anything to fix my problem. Does this sound like more of a Zoom problem or a surface problem?

Anyone else have a similar issue and fixed it?

Thanks for sharing your experience. My issues with using my Surface Pro 7 with Zoom were manifest back in mid-Novembr. I'm not sure when or which Zoom updates may have made things worse for the SP7.

Although frustrated I spent so much money for the device and it doesn't do what I need it to do, much less better than my Surface Pro 4, the fact that I still have the old SP4 has still allowed my to use OneNote shared screen while running a Zoom class. Thus I haven't been nearly as frantic about finding as solution to why my Surface Pro 7 freezes up incessantly.

I truly wish either Microsoft and/or Zoom would come up with a solution to this issue. After all, the Surface product line seems to be the ultimate solution to remote instruction for the sciences, the screen freeze/OneNote issue notwithstanding. Since I've already spent the money on the SP7, I can't currently justify putting even more money into switching to Apple products, at least not at this point. I have been a loyal PC user for several decades and I would be profoundly disappointed to make a complete platform switch. Unfortunately, I may have to...

I AM A TEACHER USING ZOOM AND BOUGHT A BRAND NEW SURFACE PRO IN 2020, BECAUSE MY PREVIOUS SURFACE PRO WAS FREEZING ON ZOOM, SUDDENLY IN MARCH 2020.   WHEN I SHOWED MP4 CLIPS UP TO THAT ON MY SURFACE PRO THAT I BOUGHT IN 2017, EVERYTHING WAS JUST FINE.  I TAUGHT A WHOLE CLASS WITH NO FREEZING.  THEN THE FREEZING STARTED.  I DID EVERYTHING ANYONE SUGGESTED ON THAT COMPUTER WITH NO RESULTS.  SO I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT THE NEWEST VERSION IN MARCH 2020.

I HAVE TO WRITE ON A SCREEN AND SHOW FILM CLIPS, SO I NEED THE SPLIT SCREEN FUNCTION AND I NEED FILM CLIPS TO WORK NEXT TO A WRITING APPLICATION AT THE SAME TIME  EVERYTHING WORKED AND THEN IT DIDN'T, AS I SAID, ABOUT MARCH 0F 2020.

I HEARD ZOOM DID SOME UPDATES, BUG FIXES AND AFTER THAT, AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME, MY SURFACE WOULDN'T USE ZOOM PROPERLY ON A SPLIT SCREEN.  RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A HUGE WORKSHOP.  SO I HAD TO GO ENTIRELY MAC AND IPAD AND IT WAS COMPLETELY DIFFICULT.  MAC PRODUCTS ALWAYS WORK WITH MP4, SPLIT SCREENS, AND ZOOM.  THERE IS NO FREEZING.  BUT FOR MY TEACHING SITUATION, THE SURFACE PRO WAS GREAT.

    I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED?

When I connect an ethernet dongle to my box it starts missing key presses on the keyboard and the mouse freezes occasionally. Zoom problem happen either way.

I haven't tried an ethernet cable, only wifi. Hopefully Microsoft puts out an update to fix the bug

It seems to be the network adapter for me.  Works fine when on WiFi, but fails if I use an ethernet cable.
