Fingerprint reader stopped working with Surface Pro 3 after anniversary update

I am using a Surface Pro 4 typepad cover on a Surface Pro 3. Ever since the Windows 10 anniversary update, the fingerprint reader does not work when I turn on the Surface, unless I detach and reattach the typepad cover. The keyboard and mouse work fine - the only problem is with the fingerprint reader.

I tried checking drivers, but the Windows says they are up to date.

    Hi,

We would like to know if there were multiple apps left running in the background before the Surface Pro 3 went to sleep. If so, can you try to close all apps before leaving it to go on sleep mode and check if the issue persists? This will help us determine what's really causing it. In the meantime, we suggest that you uninstall and re-install the keyboard driver in Device Manager and see if that helps.

    Let us know the results.

Hello Brian, pardon the delay. I have been attempting to generate repeatable data. Sadly those resolution steps did not work.

    Surface Type Cover Filter Driver

    3/23/2017

    1.1.504.0

    Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher

Does not fix the issue if removed completely. The driver was reacquired for re-installation via online auto detect and the Surface Pro Firmware/Driver pack available on Microsoft's site.

The only foreground apps running are a web browser, Firefox. There are numerous Windows/background tasks, which I won't name since they are so numerous. There are also a few background daemons related to virtualization applications I use, but these were not in use or launched and are fully updated.

A "tasklist" from command prompt revealed nothing out of the ordinary, for my machine. If you do need a full list of processes, active and background, I can oblige but I am fairly certain this is not the cause. (This problem affects numerous other users of a Type 4 Fingerprint cover on a Pro 3, and I am almost certain they do not use the same software suites I do.)

I have the same setup - Surface Pro 3 with the black fingerprint keyboard.  I recently reset my device and loaded Windows 10 from USB.  Once the system was up I loaded all the available updates.  I've done this several time over the last week with continued intermittent problems from the fingerprint reader.  I'm going on 2 days without an issue from the fingerprint reader on this last reset.  The only difference is I'm using a local account versus using my Microsoft account.  It might still be a little earlier, but by now the fingerprint reader would have broke several times for me.

What is different about the authentication process using a Microsoft account versus a local account?

    Hi all

I fixed this annoying glitch by following the first two steps outlined here:

    http://windowsreport.com/fix-fingerprint-reader-not-working-sleep-windows-10/

Not sure if either or both were required.

    Hope it helps.

Wanted to provide some feedback.  I did have this fingerprint issue as I stated months ago.  As of the last few months the issue has resolved itself.  I didn't reinstall Windows or do any major change to my applications other than routine updates.  I can't credit the fix to anything, but my fingerprint sensor has worked for the the past month.
