I am feeling pain in my ear due to using Surface Earbuds.

I have pre-ordered Surface Earbuds by looking at the ads and few videos on Youtube (Verge) about how comfy the buds were! 

I have tried every ear tip size and large fits ok for me while other sizes drop off. If i shake my head; earbuds drop off even if it large size. I wonder if i have a unique ear? 

  • I feel pain in my ear for using earbuds for more than an hour.
  • If you even touch outer rim of your earbuds to adjust; your mobile phone assistant pops up.
  • The right earbud drains battery faster than the left one at any point.
  • I would not mind microsoft guys contacting me about what improvements should be done on the earbuds. 
  • They could have added silicone tips similar to bose that  sits in your ear and feel comfortable for longer periods.

By this I am deeply disappoined by Surface Earbuds.

    I share your sentiment. I received them yesterday and am baffled by Microsoft's decision to not include a flexible sticking ear piece in the design to keep the buds lodged into your ears. Even size large fall out if I shake my head.

    Volume adjustment is very sensitive and more often activates a mobile assistant. Also, adjustment of volume seems to make the ear piece fall out since it is barely in my ear. I am surprised they did not go with a similar system to Bose.

    Lastly, do you experience the issue with a constant hissing noise when music is playing and the it stopping about 3 seconds after it stops?

    Yes I do!

    There is a significant lag after connecting to a device and along sentence of you are connected to your mobile/PC. If I am on a call, there is a lag; then I can hear properly. That is a software issue. I did not expect such thing from microfsoft being a software giant.

    I feel for you that the earbuds are uncomfortable, but they're extremely comfortable to me -- and they stay in place just fine. Also, I haven't had a single mis-hit with the earbud controls.

    That aside, I've tried the Apple Airpods and Huawei Freebuds 3 (both have a similar design) and they are extremely painful to my ears. Clearly that's not the case with most people, since the Airpods in particular are extremely popular. It just is what it is. They don't work with everyone.

    Whether these stay in your ears largely depend on the anatomy of the ear lobe - some people have this natural "pocket" on the lower part of the ear, and for those people earbuds essentially never fall out. 

    Bose design seems to be the most comfortable for me, as it has the upward facing tip which keeps the earbuds firmly in my ear. Others have similar design with upward facing rubber piece, I wish Microsoft would have done the same.
