Surface Pro 4 Screen Flickers

I have the same problem as many other Microsoft users (summarized below)

What is Microsoft's solution to resolve the Surface Pro 4 flickering screen?

ISSUE

Due to the pandemic, I now need to work remotely and use this Surface for 8 or more hours each day.  The first full day was a surprise when my screen started flickering.  I see that Microsoft knew about this issue and arranged to extend the warranty to 3 years.  Unfortunately, my Surface Pro 4 is just past the 3 years.  I feel that since my Surface was registered when I bought it that Microsoft should have notified me that my Surface was in the batch of known hardware defects.  Had I known about this issue, I would have taken care of this issue immediately.  Instead, I was left to discover this on my own over time.  Now, Microsoft support has offered to replace my Surface with a used certified Surface for an additional $599.99 with only a 90 day warranty.  I don't really want to spend an additional $599.99 but I will if I have to so I can continue to get some work done.  I have 2 issues with this, one is that Microsoft had my contact information from my registered device and never contacted me to say I had this known hardware issue and second is that after I spend $599.99 I will get a used device with only a 90 warranty.

1) What is Microsoft's resolution to this?

2) How do we implement the solution during the COVID-19 crisis?

Where other surfaces have the problem when the screen is heating up, I have this problem when the screen is cold.
When starting up, everything flickers, doubles etc. When warmed up after 5 minutes the surface becomes usable .
Even on hot days I have no flickering on startup. This is also a thermal problem of the screen, but sligfhtly different from others....

Maybe you have the same? When rebooting in safe mode, the screen was warmed up?

You can try starting up with a Ubuntu USB stick, so this way you can eliminate all microsoft / windows drivers that might cause this flickering.
If you still have the flickering in the ubunto desktop, you know enough. PS nothing will be installed... When you plug out the ubuntu usb stick, the regular windows will start. I hope this helps

    Hi,

I tried to find an email address to talk a person has authority in Microsoft to solve my problem. I hope you someone in Microsoft has answer for my problem.

The story is, I have a surface pro 4 which got screen scrambled. The device warranty was ended in May 2021.

1 - I was noted this issue in April 2021 and contacted Microsoft and explained my issue. The Agent told me that there is no Surface Pro 4 inventory at that moment, and I must buy a new device or contact them later. They asked me to be in contact with Microsoft for a replacement.

2 – The screen became more worse in the last two weeks ago and I called for reminding for a replacement. The agent said there is no record for your first contact and now the device is out of warranty. I asked to talk to a manager, he said he will escalate the issue and get back to me. No answer.

3 – I followed up again through Microsoft chat to follow up with the issue. A technical agent contacted me but tried to convince me to buy a new device with $200 discount for brand new devices through case no. 1024549027. I confirmed but no body follow up with my case.

4 – I contacted again through Microsoft chat to follow up with the issue. I asked to talk with a manager. Nobody contacts. I asked to buy a new Surface Pro 6. Offered me $280 through case no 152244710 but refurbished and said there is no brand-new device available now.

After these 2-month wasting my time, no Microsoft agent contacted me unless contacted salespeople. I want to know if this is the way that Microsoft treats the clients? Very disrespectful. And if this is Microsoft policy then that’s ok but better to know before buying a new device.

It is very difficult to get a response from a Tech if you lose the connection. Hang on to your case number. Even then, I had a difficult time getting reconnected to a technician.

Had similar issues. Flickering/flashing as it gets very hot behind the screen. For the past few days, I noticed a loud buzzing sound as the screen started to flicker badly as it over heated. I am afraid and concerned that it may someday catch on fire? Yes, it was that hot! The side vent was hot enough that I finally turned it off and sent it back for service today under warranty. I truly feel that this issue will someday lead to a major law suit when someone becomes injured. Hopefully, MS will wake up and have a major recall before any of that happens!

My tech solved the problem by replacing the display with an LG (I think) display, required a special cable to attach the new screen, replaced the battery as it was an older version and the system works fine $350 and saves a lot of hastle of replacing the unit. Claims the problem really results from older batteries swelling up, touching the display and overheating the screen...
