Surface Pro 4 Screen Flickers

Microsoft knew about the screen flickering issue on Pro 4 and arranged to extend the warranty to 3 years.  Unfortunately, my Surface Pro 4 is just past the 3 years.  I feel that since my Surface was registered when I bought it that Microsoft should have notified me that my Surface was in the batch of known hardware defects.  Had I known about this issue, I would have taken care of this issue immediately.  Instead, I was left to discover this on my own over time. 

My surface Pro 4 really works well for me. Just the screen flickering problem stop me from continue my works.

Microsoft should take up the responsibility to inform all the registered users since Microsoft knew that this is a major problem to their users.

Hope Microsoft will take action.

Just finding out today as well. Their 1% statistics is fast becoming false and it is a pity the greedy executives, as usual won’t do what is right. Why the limit of 3years and why were all customers not informed?

To think I was avoiding Apple, now it seems I will become a prodigal.

Wow! To think that I have been blaming myself for my surface pro4 flickering and overheated battery that stopped suddenly stopped working, got another from Amazon which gets even hotter and just gone caput and then trying to buy another “genuine” charger, only to stumble into the Microsoft community to find I have been experiencing manufacturing problems and Microsoft cannot be candid enough to inform its customers of their error.

I am sooo glad to find this because I was thinking of buying the latest pro but wont be beaten twice. I shall save my money for Apple. How disappointing to find out this way when I have been promoting the product.... very sad.

I found a solution which probably sounds strange but works fine for me.

Change the taskbar clock to display seconds as described here:

In registry section HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

set ShowSecondsInSystemClock (DWORD) to 1.

The idea behind this fix is the observation, that flickering stopped for some seconds when something on the display was changed (move mouse, video, ...). This setting forces an update of the clock on the screen each second.

I've tried all the other "fixes" so why not this one? It was very easy to do, but unfortunately in my case it didn't cure the problem. Thanks for sharing though. Hope others have better success.
