Surface Dock USB ports not working - Dock Updater repeatedly fails

I have Surface book 13.5, and Surface Dock. USB ports on the dock are not working.

Running Surface Dock updater says I need to power cycle the dock, although I already did it several times.

Event viewer reports error code 12105, with message: "Failed to update USB hub firmware."

    Hi Guys,

I've experienced the same issues on my surface book 1 + docking station. USB ports are disabled randomly and I can force this behavior by unpluging/plugin the monitor while leaving the bottom part attached to the docking station. Restarting the surface resolves this issue.

However: I reversed the way the Power Connector is plugged in and it worked immediately, Make sure the small LED is facing towards the monitor.

    I didn't do any docking-station firmware upgrades.

Hope this helps some of you

It's a good temporary fix, but it will return.

I unplugged my surface dock -(remove the power cable) and put it back on - now the usb works ;-)

I have a Surface Book 2 & a Surface Dock. This dock issue happens to me regularly, but not every time. Connect the dock & it's USB ports will connect & disconnect repeatedly. Battery charging will often also stop & start repeatedly. Simply disconnecting & reconnecting the dock won't fix it. Doesn't matter if the SB2 was in standby or completely powered off (fast start disabled) when connected to the dock. Doesn't matter if there is nothing is connected to the dock (so it's only being used for power).

What does fix it - Every. Single. Time - is a reboot of the SB2. For me, this is not a hardware issue!

Did any answer on answers.microsoft.com ever work for anyone? I don't think so. This is a website where people come looking for answers that don't work. Especially answers posted by Microsoft forum staff, if you see the word Microsoft in the signature, skip it, it won't work.
