Surface Dock USB ports not working - Dock Updater repeatedly fails

I have Surface book 13.5, and Surface Dock. USB ports on the dock are not working.

Running Surface Dock updater says I need to power cycle the dock, although I already did it several times.

Event viewer reports error code 12105, with message: "Failed to update USB hub firmware."

tirwit_06, I notice from our event logs that we have the same MCU, HUB1 and HUB2 firmware versions, and that it's the HUB 2 update that fails, and also that the current firmware version we have for HUB2 is 00000000 which seems a bit odd.

I wonder if it's this zero firmware version that's preventing any update being written.

Does anyone know if there's a way to "flash" and re-write the dock firmware from a blank state?

    Thanks Barb.

The exact error message I get is the one pictured in the original post of this thread. It has no error number as far as I can see.

I deleted the files you suggested, re-downloaded the dock updater and tried again, but no change.

The event log for the attempted update is here:

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1UsQ048tKGyuf5ZC9qra8ZHRhgzdnNICi

Please let me know if there's any more info I can give which can help this get fixed. It's very annoying having a largely useless dock due to what almost certainly a software/update issue.

    Regards,

    Ben

I uninstalled my Dock Updater, removed the MSI, and downloaded a new MSI from https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=46703.

    I don't have any folder *C:\program files\microsoft*.

After reinstalling the Dock Updater, and retrying the update, it still failed. The Event Viewer shows seven events, with three event type IDs, and one of them marked as an error. I've uploaded the events here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlSneZRP6kikli2g3UosSIyX4044

The update tentative after reinstalling the updater is the set of events after 12:31 (GMT).

Please let me know if you need additional info.

For those of you still having issues, can you post the exact error message and error number?

We would like to see Microsoft Surface Dock Updater tool event log so if you could post that to OneDrive and share a link here.

Uninstall of the .MSI and delete files in C:\program files\microsoft\surface\Dock Updater should clear everything out if you want to try again to update.

    Barb,

I am not getting any errors when updating the dock, for me it just simply decides not to recognize the wireless keyboard/mouse.
