You have got to be kidding me... This just worked for me as well. I have replaced 5 Surface Docks in the past year because my USB ports stopped working. This is such a strange fix. THANK YOU!!
Surface Dock USB ports not working - Dock Updater repeatedly fails
I have Surface book 13.5, and Surface Dock. USB ports on the dock are not working.
Running Surface Dock updater says I need to power cycle the dock, although I already did it several times.
Event viewer reports error code 12105, with message: "Failed to update USB hub firmware."

2019-07-02T18:20:18+00:00 I have purchased 12 Microsoft Surface Docks for our offices and 5 of the docking stations have had this exact problem. I try to run the Surface Dock Updater and nothing works. I always have to call Microsoft Support and they send out a new dock... This seems to be a known problem, is there no fix to this yet? Are all Surface Docks Defective and the USB Ports consistently stop working?

2019-06-13T21:25:49+00:00 This hasn't worked for me, even after cleaning all contacts. The thread seems to stop here, but I'm wondering if anyone else has been thusly perplexed still? Display works, USB ports do not. ;(
I continue to have issues regularly, though not every time. It's usually more reliable for me if I attach the dock while my SB2 is powered off, then power it on with the dock attached. Sometimes, however, it still does the constant disconnect/reconnect (which includes the attached monitors) until I reboot the SB2 (not a shutdown/restart, just a reboot). I've found that works for me every time.
I have a USB-C dock at work & never have this issue!

2019-06-13T20:33:28+00:00 However: I reversed the way the Power Connector is plugged in and it worked immediately, Make sure the small LED is facing towards the monitor.

Nothing but problems with Surface Devices. Second Dock, second Surface Book, fresh installs. Surface Dock Updated app doesn't detect Surface Dock.

2019-04-24T14:40:08+00:00 Who would've guessed?! This worked for me! I have an older headset with separate mini-jacks for audio and mic that is plugged into a USB dongle, which is itself plugged into the Surface Dock and has not worked for several days now. Flipping the Surface Book's power connector so that the small LED on the connector faced toward the laptop screen triggered Windows to install a USB audio driver, and...voila! My headset works again, meaning my Surface Book can read the Surface Dock's USB ports again. Thanks for the tip!
