Surface Dock USB ports not working - Dock Updater repeatedly fails

I have Surface book 13.5, and Surface Dock. USB ports on the dock are not working.

Running Surface Dock updater says I need to power cycle the dock, although I already did it several times.

Event viewer reports error code 12105, with message: "Failed to update USB hub firmware."

At the same time my hub's USB ports stopped working I also had other functionality changes.  It used to be that I could detach the clipbook from my Surface Book without booting it up.  I would just hold the detach button on the keyboard down and it would turn green and detach.  Now, if I hold the button down, it turns red and powers up the Surface book.  Then, after I'm at the logon screen I can hold it down and detach the clipbook.  Then I have to shut it down again.  It seems a Surface Firmware update borked a few things here.

My ports are no longer working either.  This is not a hardware issue.  A system update or firmware update caused the issue with the dock USB and sound port.  Microsoft needs to step up and resolve the issue.  Stop spinning wheels.

I have a user that has been using a Surface Book with dock for about a month. Thursday of last week, the user reported that the keyboard/mouse (wireless logitech) stopped working. When I unplugged and plugged in the USB receiver, it would start to work. However it only worked for about a day, then it would stop working again. So far the only way to get the keyboard/mouse to work is to plug it into the Surface Book directly. I took the Surface Book home over the weekend and could not find anything wrong. I then came in this morning and ran the MS Dock Update Utility which seems to have issues (as a lot of people are reporting), when I logged out, the user reported that the keyboard/mouse stopped working on the login screen. Again, I plugged it directly into the Surface Book and it is currently working but for how long. I am temped to replace the dock since I have a spare, but after reading some of these post I am reluctant. I wish MS would read these posts and actually do something other than let us post over and over and not get any support other than to take the whole thing to a MS store, or if you do not have one, to call in. MS can you please fix this issue?

I finally contacted MS and they are RMAing this device as they suspect it is a hardware issue. This is after reinstalling windows, swapping docks, running all MS Surface Book firmware updates, making sure that the laptop was up to date with all the MS updates, etc.

My user now has a new Surface Book (not the one with the issues) so that we can send the Surface Book that does have these issues back to MS for a replacement. I will update when I am able to see if this resolves the issue.

Same issue here.  The USB ports just stopped working on mine.  The Dock Updater gives me the same errors.  Gets to 1% then tells me there was an unexpected error and tells me to power cycle.

Playing around with this dock I see something interesting that I thought maybe would give someone a clue of what is going on.  If I plug something into the USB port and unplug the dock for a minute, then plug it back in, the device plugged into the USB begins to work.  Then I turn on my surface book and the USB device stops working.  Any ideas?
