Surface Dock USB ports not working - Dock Updater repeatedly fails

I have Surface book 13.5, and Surface Dock. USB ports on the dock are not working.

Running Surface Dock updater says I need to power cycle the dock, although I already did it several times.

Event viewer reports error code 12105, with message: "Failed to update USB hub firmware."

    Hi Guys,

I've experienced the same issues on my surface book 1 + docking station. USB ports are disabled randomly and I can force this behavior by unpluging/plugin the monitor while leaving the bottom part attached to the docking station. Restarting the surface resolves this issue.

However: I reversed the way the Power Connector is plugged in and it worked immediately, Make sure the small LED is facing towards the monitor.

    I didn't do any docking-station firmware upgrades.

Hope this helps some of you

Hello! I found this over at http://www.surfaceforums.net/threads/docking-station-usb-ports-not-working.10313/

1). Remove all cables and dongles from surface dock.

2). Unplug Surface Dock from Surface Book (or Pro)

3). Shutdown Surface Book (or Pro)

4). Press and hold Power Button for 20-30 secs. Startup screen will go Black and stop starting up.

5). Plug all cables/dongles back into your Surface Dock

6). Plug Surface Dock back into your Surface Book (or Pro)

7). Press Power Button on Surface Book (or Pro) for standard start up.

I was told that the issue was with my device holding a static charge making it unable to connect to the USB hub on the Surface Dock. The long press on startup will drain the charge allowing it to reconnect properly on next startup. Hope this helps!

    It worked great for me!

Thank you for getting back to us. Let's check the Surface Dock adapter in Device Manager to work on this further. Refer to these steps:

    1. Open Device Manager (Windows key + X > Device Manager).
    2. Expand Human Interface Devices.
    3. Look for Surface Dock Integration. Right-click on the adapter and choose Uninstall.
    4. Restart your Surface and let it reinstall the Surface Dock driver.

    Inform us about the outcome.

Nop. Microsoft support has been pretty rubbish with this. Their latest reply was to send me to a phone number which I had to wait for 2 or 3 hours to be attended, only to tell me that there are no Microsoft stores in the UK and because of this they cannot solve my issue.

I'm deeply unsatisfied with my Surface experience so far and will be considering this experience when buying any more Microsoft products.

    Hi

Unfortunately, although the troubleshooter found some issues, none of these were related to the dock update. Even after restarting the laptop, I still get the message to power cycle the dock, repeatedly.

What else can we do? Let me know if you need some system info.
