I have the same issue and I have tried all the possible fixes, but none worked. I am returning it, feeling very frustrated. I had a surface pro 3 and it worked like a star. It's shameful for MS to take so long before even fixing this issue.

Hi,
Anyone has the same issue as me?
When I change brightness with keyboard it does change to 30-50% only (no visible change).
When changing in side swipe, with touch it allows me to change 0%-100% (no visible change)
I tried with nigh mode off... no change
Tried windows setting ... no change
Ambient light On/Off... no change
Can anyone help?

2021-01-05T22:07:59+00:00 I managed to fix it by updating my graphics driver using Intel Driver and Support Assistant to the latest Intel one, rather than the one OEM (Microsoft) customised one that is used by default.

so as mentioned, my brightness wasn't working either. I tried the whole device management display adapter thing and it didn't work. I tried restarting my surface pro 7 with the advice above. Holding down the power button and volume button to turn off your surface pro. Then hit the power button to turn your surface pro back on, and voila! good as new!

2020-11-22T17:43:31+00:00 Good news Jeff. That trick worked the first time it happened to me. Shortly thereafter the machine wouldnt wake up for me. Tried all the tricks, contacted microsoft, and ultimately returned the device. MS was excellent and refunded me in full immediately. Good luck!
