Dear all, please help. In the last month I've noticed my surface duo battery go down from lasting all day and phone not getting hot to the right side of the phone getting very hot and the battery only lasting 2 hours even in standby with the screens off. Switching the phone to airplane mode allows the battery to last more than a day in standby mode and the phone doesn't get hot. It seems to be a software issue. Is there a fix?

Comical. The responce switched from an answer applicable to the Surface Duo to a PC running Windows at step 3.

To the OP, perform steps 1 and 2. Then long press the power button until the screens go black and the Duo vibrates. It will then restart. This might help.

    Hello

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

According to your description, the Surface Duo heats up badly and its battery life plummets in normal mode, but returns to normal in Airplane Mode.

It is indeed probable that this is caused by abnormal software or system processes (such as background apps waking up frantically, network module failure, etc.).

You can check from the following aspects

    1. Check battery usage details

Locate the culprit: Go to Settings → Battery to check the battery usage.

Focus on: Apps with unusually high power consumption (even if you are not actively using them).

Mobile network/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth power consumption (if too high, it may be a signal problem or driver failure). 2.

    1. Close the background power-consuming apps

Go to Settings → Apps & Notifications → View all apps:

Tap Suspicious apps → Battery → Select Limit background activity.

Temporarily disable or uninstall recently installed third-party apps (especially social, gaming and optimization apps).

    1. Clean Start: Troubleshoot the problems caused by third-party software

       1. Tap Windows+R and type msconfig

       2. Open System Configuration, select General tab - Selective Startup.

       3. Remove the checkbox for Load startup items.

       4. Go to the Services tab - click Hide all microsoft services in the lower left corner, and then click Disable all.

       5. Click OK and restart your computer. (Be sure to select Hide all microsoft services first and then click Disable all, otherwise it may lead to unforeseen problems such as not being able to access the system.)

       6. Check if the problem will reappear.

DISCLAIMER: Clean Boot is a way to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if background programs are interfering with your games or programs and help you figure out the cause of the problem. It will help you get back on track.

Thank you for your patience and reading.

    Best regards.
