Surface Pro 3 Warping/Bending

I've been super happy with my Surface Pro 3, that is until this week when I noticed that it is severely warping.

This is not the kickstand and it is not the keyboard. The whole back of the device is pulling in towards to front (screen side) like a banana. It is starting to get very noticeable from the top where the power button is. It is noticeable but less severe at the bottom by the keyboard. I am very careful with the device, and carry it in a huge laptop bag with no other contents.

Is this a known problem? i couldn't find it reported anywhere else. I am currently suspecting heat warping, as I think the hotter components are at the top.

This is the i5 version.

I went over your posts and viewed the image you've presented and I would strongly suggest to reach out to Support for further assistance on a possible replacement or if you prefer, you can contact the Store where you made the purchase or a local Microsoft Store if you are near one for a replacement as if your device is bent or starting to bend, it isn't normal and needs to be addressed right away.

Please do reach out to either one of the options mentioned above and please keep us posted.

Hi James,

As you've described, your Surface screen has already been damaged due to bending, and we highly suggest that you contact our Surface Support for further assistance on a possible replacement.

Furthermore, you can contact the store where you made the purchase, or if you're in the US, it's best that you go to the nearest physical retail Microsoft Store in your area.

this kind of bending as you describe is not normal, with the screen popping out.

Surface Pro 3 devices use a specially treated magnesium alloy case designed to help reduce weight, improve battery performance and because the treatment allows the case to be slightly malleable, improve durability in use. As a side effect of this treatment, devices can acquire a slight curvature. This curvature only occurs during the treatment process and does not change after manufacturing.

Our manufacturing process adheres to a strict specification for the maximum allowed curvature of the device and we routinely test newly manufactured devices to insure that specification is being met. This curvature does not impact functionality or usability of the device in any way. Microsoft is always looking for ways to improve the aesthetics and quality of our devices and we greatly value the feedback that we have received from our customers.

I beg to differ. While warping at the top may not impact functionality, the warping on my device has occurred at the bottom, right where the type cover connects. Although the bending is minute, it has affected the cover to connect properly at times, forcing me to either push it in properly or reconnect.

I have contacted support and they will be picking up my unit tomorrow. Hopefully a replacement will be sent ASAP as the SP3 is an essential part of my work toolset.

I have another unit of SP3 and am glad to say that the type cover works perfectly with it due to the absence of any warping.
