    Hello, LarryCrouch.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

If you are unable to use the microphone on your device, we need to first consider where the problem stems from.

    The possibilities are:

    1. Problems with sound-related drivers

    2. There is a hardware problem with your Surface

I would also like to confirm your device model with you, to confirm if this is a Surface Studio 1, or a Surface Laptop Studio 1. Please understand my caution, as there have been users who have posted questions in the wrong section, and I would like to avoid misunderstandings as much as possible.

Also, do you have an external microphone device? You can add a partial description to determine if the problem stems from the microphone array.

We will continue to troubleshoot issues stemming from the driver. We can manually obtain driver and firmware installers for Surface devices to resolve potential driver-originated failures. Please select the download link that corresponds to the specific model of your device:

The above steps usually work if the problem originates with the driver.

If the problem persists, especially in the device's own microphone array, then it is reasonable to suspect that the problem originates from the hardware.

As I am not in a position to directly assist you in debugging your device, I recommend you to contact the Surface Technical Support team for more efficient hardware service.

I share with you the steps to create a service order here:

Open the Surface App (usually built into your Surface device, or you can download it from the Microsoft Store if you don't have one) and follow the procedure below:

    1. Click "Help and Support" and then click "Get Help".
    2. Briefly describe your problem in the text box, such as "Surface microphone not working", and then press Enter.
    3. Click "Contact Support" at the bottom.
    4. Select "Technical Support" and click "Confirm".
    5. You will see "Chat support" and "Phone support" options, please contact them during working hours, you will get one-to-one support services.

These are the main troubleshooting recommendations for Surface issues.

If you have anything to add about your situation, please don't hesitate to let me know, I'm here to support you.

    Best Regards.
