Unable to configure my Exchange email in Surface mail program

First off, it's too bad Microsoft couldn't include Outlook with the other Office products.  In any case, I have had no problem configuring my exchange email address on my iPhone, iPad, PC laptop.  I've tried all sorts of combinations for server and domain, including the one I use for my iPhone, but not success!  Very frustrating.

Suppose my domain name was mydomain. On my iPhone I leave "domain" blank. I put in for server: webmail.mydomain.com.

I've tried that, I've tried addition both mydomain and mydomain.com to domain.  I've tried adding https:// to URL and also adding /owa at end (which I need for web log on).

On top of that after trying several combos Mail program presents me with blank screen, and I have to reset to get the screen back.

Not a happy camper!

    Sorry to hear about the issue you've been having. 

    Please try to do the following:

    1. From the Start screen, tap on Mail
    2. Enter your Microsoft Account information (used to be called LIVE ID)
    3. Once your account is setup, swipe from the right of the screen to the left to open the Charms menu (Also can use Windows + C)
    4. Tapthe Settings icon
    5. Tap on Accounts.
    6. Tap Add Account.
    7. Enter your E-mail address and Password.

    Let us know if that works.

    Hal,

    I have exchange setup successfully.  Based on your original question I say you need to put the domain name of the domain that you use for authentication on your exchange account.

    Hi Dewain,

    I appreciate your response and acknowledge it could be user error.  However, I am an experienced user and configured my exchange account correctly on my iPhone/iPad and Windows 7 laptop.

    Yes I entered my domain name and logon ID:  mydomain/hal

    Is Autoconfigure something our Exchange administrator should set up, or can I do it? (I am owner/CEO of our small company)

    You will need to enter your domain name.  That is what you see on your pc as your logon domain if you hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete.  You should then also enter your logon id.  I promise it works, because mine is doing it fine.  You should really tell your company to setup Autoconfigure so you don't have this issue.  If setup correctly at your company you should not have to provide any of this information.  Hope this helps.

    I appreciate the response, getting into the Mail program and setting up an account is not the problem. After your steps, I clicked Outlook. Then as I explained in my original post, I entered the fields in the same way as in the iPhone and iPad. (This morning for user I tried mydomain.hal instead of just hal.)  PLEASE READ ORIGINAL POST.

    Note that I set up my gmail account successfully.

    Honestly, I just want to return the thing. It is too buggy and I don't want to beta test.

    Examples:

    * sometimes my screen keyboard comes up when physical keyboard is connected. Have to "unclick" and click physical keyboard to disable to touch screen

    *It took forever to set up Wifi -- until we discovered the Surface autocaps the first letter of the WiFi password. (there is no way of telling from the physical keyboard, since * just gets entered for password letter)

    (BTW I am serious about returning it. I don't have the time to spend hours trouble shoot ing getting my MICROSOFT email working.  How do I return it?  If I could get my Exchange working soon, maybe I'll wait)
