Surface Dock Keeps Disconnecting Intermittently

Microsoft,

What is going on with this thing?

I have had the Surface Dock for two months now. Purchased it to go with my Surface Laptop 1.

Every day.... and I mean every day, this thing disconnects itself from my Surface Laptop, my monitor goes black, my usb peripherals disconnect, and my network goes down... and then in one second everything magically reconnects.

Sometimes it only happens 5 times a day. Other days it happens like a gazillion.

Once it first started happening, I scoured the internet looking for a solution. I replaced the dock, I updated the firmware, I connected it to a different power source, I've power cycled, I've turned the cord around - etc. No matter what I do it keeps happening.

And there is no good answers on this message board that seems to fix this issue. I have read them all.

What is going on with this thing?

Right now, just so y'all know, this thing is only acting as a power source for my laptop. I am plugging the monitor directly into the Surface Laptop, I have upgraded to a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and my Ethernet is going into the system over usb. Even with NOTHING else plugged into the Surface Dock.... nothing. Just power. It is STILL disconnecting and reconnecting intermittently. What the H?!?

This is unacceptable and you guys really need to figure out a solution for this. My boss has a Surface Book 1 and he also experiences these issues daily, as well. Since he's using dual monitors, he just puts up with them going out and turning back on five to twenty times a day. The only ones in the office with the dock that aren't experiencing these issues are the two that have Surface Pro 4's...

What can we do to fix this? The Surface Dock is currently the most expensive laptop charger I've ever purchased (since that's all it seems to be decent at).

Sincerely,

Microsoft Enthusiast

I wonder if my problem is related.  I don't use a dock.  But the SDXC card that I keep in the slot of my Surface Pro 6 keeps disappearing from Windows.  I've replaced the SDXC card.  Tried Doxit liquid on the SDXC contacts.  All to no effect.  My SDXC card disappears about three times per week.  Less frequent than some of the disappearing dock problems in this thread.  But it might also be related to sleep as some posters here report.

I have exactly the same issue which has been going on since mid 2018 when I first purchased the product. I use a Surface Pro 5 via Surface Dock to a Samsung UE590 Monitor. I have changed cables, Surface Pro, Surface Dock, updated everything, ran diagnostics, tried different refresh rates, and the list goes on. I even updated the Intel graphics card from the Intel website and the issue still occurs. I complained to the Feedback Hub, Microsoft Community, and Microsoft Answer Desk numerous times with no resolution. I wouldn't bet my money that the Surface Dock 2 is an improvement.

I've seen many other posts like this, some of which date as early as 2015. At this point, I got to admit that Microsoft isn't going to do anything if its been this long despite the numerous complaints. I've read through most of them and so far nobody has been able to come up with a resolution and its frustrating. The only real solution is to not buy this garbage product (in this case the Surface Dock). I should've done further research and bought a gaming PC along with a Surface tablet but at the time I purchased the Surface Dock, it received mostly favorable reviews. I cannot wait until I replace this disappointing PC ecosystem with a reliable gaming PC and Surface Pro X tablet.

Microsoft has sent me a new one and updated it and so far it has worked.  however it has only been a few weeks and it usually takes a few months to show up again.  Time will tell.

I have the same issue with my keyboard and mouse constantly reconnecting. I have a surface laptop 2 and surface dock. I am using logitech peripherals and a unifying receiver plugged directly into my laptop and am still having issues...

Been fighting this forever.  I just waived my white flag and ordered a Dock 2.  Hopefully, the beefier W ratings will resolve the issue.

FYI, same exact problem. Surface Laptop 2, two different docks, intermittent disconnects or crazy disconnects until you uninstall the Surface Dock Integration in System Devices.  Turning of USB power/sleep does nothing.  Cleaning the connectors does nothing.

It does seem to be related to power draw.  When I use Jabra 75 (with or without the dongle), and share my powerpoint via Zoom, it disconnects like crazy.  But more so if I go to presentation mode than just regular slide view.

Hopefully, Dock 2 will fix it.  When it gets here this weekend, I'll report back.  FWIW, it's on sale at Amazon/Microsoft store.
