My surface pro 4 developed a horizontal line across the top of the screen, and then ghsot windows appeared of closed boxes during use, to the extent where the screen became unreadable and a restart was needed.
My device warranty expired in April, and i understand that MS doesn't do anything except replace the device if there's an issue, so my question is, without a warranty, what is there to do? I can't believe that after a year, a device that costs as much as a top-end laptop, brakes and has to be thrown away.
Anyone had any similar issues and found solutions?

I'm having the same problems. Got it replaced last year and it worked, the issue stopped but now has recently came back . None of the fixes have helped and the MS support. Mines out of warranty and really need it for school.
I've seen many people posting about it and the most annoying thing is MS still won't fix it even though loads of people are having the same issue.

The issue occurs when the Pro is hot and on mains charge. I now keep a fan running pointing at the top right corner of the Pro when on charge. Even with the fan the screen can ghost if I am using a lot of processor power. As soon as the ghost appears, I pull the charger off and have a cup of tea. The screen is OK after a few minutes. The ghosting never appears when running only on battery.
So now the Pro 4 is just about usable with this workaround

Well that's odd as I have the opposite issue; the only way I can use it is if it's plugged in and working off the mains. If I keep the brightness up to 100%, the brightness tends to stop after a few minutes.

Mines the same when it's plugged in at the mains, no matter what brightness it starts, however it's rarely do that when I'm not plugged in.
I really regret buying it as I can't use it anymore for what I want to be doing.
