Screen flicker and ghosting

My surface pro 4 developed a horizontal line across the top of the screen, and then ghsot windows appeared of closed boxes during use, to the extent where the screen became unreadable and a restart was needed.

My device warranty expired in April, and i understand that MS doesn't do anything except replace the device if there's an issue, so my question is, without a warranty, what is there to do?  I can't believe that after a year, a device that costs as much as a top-end laptop, brakes and has to be thrown away.

Anyone had any similar issues and found solutions?

    I've tried all those to no avail. And I don't wan to pay for a customer service call just for them to tell me nothing can be done. Seems like everyone on the screen flickering thread have wasted their time paying to call. Feels like I'm left with an expensive piece of junk here.

    Hi Marcus,

    A software installation alone will make the screen flicker. Please follow some of the methods to get this resolved:

    Method 1: Fix common Surface problems using the Software Repair Tool.

    Method 2: Uninstall Duet Display. Here's how:

    1. Go to Start
    2. Select Settings > System > Apps & Features
    3. Check to see if Duet Display is listed under installed software. If Duet Display is in the apps list, uninstall it.

    Method 3: Install any available updates.

    Method 4: If you have Hyper-V installed, please turn it off. Here's how: 

    1. Select the search box in the taskbar, type in programs and features, and select Programs and Features.
    2. Select Turn Windows features on or off.
    3. Remove the check from Hyper-V and tap OK.
    4. Restart your Surface device.

    If the issue remains the same after following all the methods, you may keep in touch with our Global Customer Service. Or get your Surface serviced.

    Please feel free to contact us again for future concerns.

    So I've tried all of these but the repair tool did nothing and duet/hyper v aren't enabled so I'm still stuck with a malfunctioning unit. Could someone please contact me at [deleted email address for security of privacy] to discuss options. Going to a store isn't possible as I'm in Ethiopia.

    I went into the Microsoft Store, and they told me that they have no idea what causes the ghosting issue, and from what he has seen , it never gets better. This unit is a replacement unit I got because the previous Surface Pro 4 screen was malfunctioning. The warranty ended in Feb. and this just started 3 weeks ago. So I believe I'm screwed. 

    Please say there is a way to fix this besides the steps listed in this tread. I tried all of them to no avail.
