Surface Book 2: External Monitor Flickering

I bought a Surface Book 2 last month.  Yesterday, I started using it with an external monitor (connected to the SB through a HDMI to USB-C adapter). 

The external monitor flickers and disconnects once every 2 minutes, and then returns, only to flicker/disconnect again, repeatedly.  This makes working with an external monitor unbearable.

I see that many people have asked similar question re. the SB, but I could not find a reliable and actionable solution.

Can you please help me?

    The only thing that worked for me is using a really short usbc - hdmi cable or using an official surface dock.

    All other work arounds failed.

    The problem went away after an update. The update did not cover driver issues. But everything works. And is stable.

    I had a similar problem.  At first things were good, I'd get a flicker once every few hours.. it was survivable.

    Today it was happening once every few minutes.

    I started by updating the drivers, then reducing the refresh rate, then swapped from a USB-C to USB-C connection, to a USB-C to HDMI converter, in to an HDMI port.. and it continued.

    Then.. I solved it.

    I disconnected the screen, and re-connected it.  Hasn't flickered since.

    Check the connection between monitor and base.

    Never had this issue until the May firmware and updates. Using a Surface Dock with a display port connected monitor. Thanks Microsoft for making the SB2 even worse!

    switching to a 3ft usb-c to hdmi cable fixed it for me.

    External screen flicker, unstable jittery,  on Surface Book 2 via with a usb-c adapter to HDMI.

    I tried exchanging all elements (except the surface book) and finally was convinced the moving of the tablet screen position ( OPEN/CLOSE ANGLE) was causing issues.

     I UN-DOCKED the screen and replaced it and now there is no sensitivity to the screen position and my external monitor is stable.

    CLEARLY there was a poor connection.
