Surface Book 2: External Monitor Flickering

I bought a Surface Book 2 last month.  Yesterday, I started using it with an external monitor (connected to the SB through a HDMI to USB-C adapter). 

The external monitor flickers and disconnects once every 2 minutes, and then returns, only to flicker/disconnect again, repeatedly.  This makes working with an external monitor unbearable.

I see that many people have asked similar question re. the SB, but I could not find a reliable and actionable solution.

Can you please help me?

    Thank you for the reply.  I read the article you linked to, but it was a general one and did not contain the solution to my monitor flickering.

    I already downloaded and installed the firmware drivers, and the problem persists. 

    Looking at other forum questions, I see that various other Surface Book owners also report the same issue.  Does Microsoft already have a specific solution to this problem?

    Hi Danilo,

    Thank you for giving us an update. The Graphics driver can be checked by going to Device Manager > Display Adapter. Since the device is already updated and the issue still persists, we suggest that you follow the steps provided in this **article**to resolve the issue.

    In the meantime, I downloaded the latest firmware update you linked to, one file at a time.  It did not solve the problem.

    What is the graphics driver you refer to in your last question?  Where do I find it?

    Please see the answers to your questions, in the same order:

    • Monitor: Dell 19”, model P1917S.
    • Yes, I have. The problem persists with various adapters.
    • The flickering / disconnection does not respond to any app or program; it happens irrespectively of any other issue.
    • I have not tried any trouble-shooting steps.
    • I cannot confirm if I have the latest firmware. How can I know if I do?

    • Can you tell us the make and model of the external monitor?

    • Have you tried using other similar adapter to see if there are any changes?

    • Can you tell us if the flickering/disconnection responds to an app/program? Were you able to check the screen resolution as well?

    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

    • Can you confirm if the device has the latest firmware update installed? How about the graphics driver?
