Is Audio Supported Over HDMI?

So audio is issue one. Issue two is why I can't stream to a 720p TV as a second screen and continue working on the tablet because the resolution isn't high enough. Is this some stupid Windows 8 limitation that makes no sense? This should be basic 101. 

 It's funny, I'm so not an Apple fan. Very much in Android's camp and was hoping with the SRT, the only android device I'd have would be my phone. But apparently that doesn't seem to be so. I'm not streaming Hulu via my Android tablet and Chromecast. As Apple fans often say when asked with they have an iphone, "It simply just works." Android has become that way, and W8 simply is not. Not only has RT become such a fiasco due to inept marketing, lack of sales and OEM's pulling out. A lack of 3rd party support (no, not just apps but simple cloud syncing from 3rd parties is just plain annoying), no Miracast support on the SRT even though the hardware and OS support it. Lack of legacy support as in the Power Type Cover not supporting the original SRT. Not to mention SRT owners get zero SkyDrive love yet Surface 2 and now Windows Phone owners get free storage. A phone people can get for $60 outright or free contract gets free SkyDrive storage but spend $200-300 on an SRT and you get nothing which hurts worse since you can't local sync cloud storage outside of SkyDrive, and 8.1 further restricted SkyDrive where you can't just drop the Dropbox folder in and keep both services synced like you can with Google Drive and Dropbox. Makes my Chromebook more of a business tool than an SRT believe it or not.

Where to begin. Ok, apps, based on standards of development, are required to be at a specific minimum resolution. This allows scaling and prevents chaos. I understand that it sucks, but there are reasons for these things.

It seems you are combining your frustration with some sort of hate in order to confuse the reader, or exaggerate your issue. Android by no means "just works." Also, this is a surface issue, not a windows 8/rt one. If you read the thread, other laptops and tablets do not have this problem (including other RT tabs). Keep in mind, the microHDMI port in the surface also allows for digital to analog output (VGA), so that might have something to do with the issue at hand (I don't believe other tabs have this, but I could be wrong). Very true that there were mistakes made with the marketing, but this is their first line of computers, and it has gotten A LOT better; no one is perfect, nor any product. The problem with apple is you have to buy all proprietary stuff (more control). With android, its a lack of standards (less stability). Microsoft imposes strict guidelines to ensure that the experience you have is good across all devices; but of course, the more compatibility you reach for, the more potential issues you open yourself up to.

The app situation has improved exponentially, but you can't possibly compare it to app stores that have been out for years longer. In fact, the trend of growth is similar to that of apple's app store at the same point in time. Many of the apps are there, but the lack of dropbox and google drive sync is due to the lack of official apps; this is hardly MS's fault, especially if you've been reading about how google has been going out of their way to diminish google product experiences on multiple microsoft platforms (if you don't believe me, use any google service through desktop IE 11 on your surface, then go to dev tools and make the website think you're using chrome with fn+f12 and you'll see the difference). If my company doesn't want to make a website, I don't go out and blame the internet. I do agree with the mitacast thing, but from what I've read, compatibility doesn't mean a good experience. Just because it can work, doesn't mean it will work well. This is likely the reason for this not being included.

The power cover not working on the surface RT, as someone mentioned above, is not due to a lack of support; the physical connector cannot handle the charge from the power cover. When the original RT was conceived, the power cover probably wasn't even a thought. If you want to talk about lack of support, why don't we talk about most android phones/tabs never receiving timely updates, or apple products receiving "updates" with features missing even though the hardware can support it (MMS on the iphone 2G was the worst offender).

What you said about skydrive is absolutely incorrect. All of your MS accounts come with 7GB of storage; I may not be a mathematician, but that is certainly nowhere near zero. I have 25Gb of free storage because I've had my account for a long time, but their research showed that most people use under 7GB so they brought it down to that, at a time where just about everyone else was offering 5GB or less. I understand that google has recently begin to give 15GB across google+, gmail, and drive. MS's 7GB is just for skydrive and outlook/hotmail have virtually unlimited storage as it increases as you need it. And the extra storage I got for my windows phone (20GB 1 year) and surface 2 (200GB 2 years) are temporary, as stated in the parenthesis. Do you mean to tell me you've never heard of a company offering promotions or discounts on their services to promote a new product? I even read a chromebook deal that came with 100GB of extra drive space for 2 years; but of course, you already knew that, being a chromebook owner. Seriously, look around a little bit before you criticize.

I don't know what you mean by 8.1 restricting skydrive. Its the same for me. I can still drop a picture (example) into the desktop folder and it syncs instantly to allow me to access it on all my devices (xbox, wp, w8, etc.). Are you saying you put some sort of shortcut to the Dropbox service inside of the folder? Because I don't think that was ever supported as you cannot install desktop apps on RT (unless there is some shortcut way I don't know about). Lol at the chromebook comment btw.

I too am frustrated with this HDMI no audio issue, and I agree that this should have been fixed already. But I educate myself and try to find out why something may not be working, instead of finding miscellaneous, unrelated, and sometimes untrue, things to criticize. You probably should have just stopped after your second sentence. If you're gonna complain, complain about the actual issue.
