wifi issues

I had an issue this morning where Surface couldn't find any wifi networks (when 5 were in the area) and it was connected the previous night. I solved this issue by searching windows rt for Network. Open Network Connections, find the wifi device and then disable this connection. After a minute - I re-enabled the connection and then it started to work.

Just wanted to share my experience if anyone runs into the same issue. Thanks!

Not all limited connectivity scenarios have solutions that can be controlled by the Wi-Fi drivers of a given device. Limited connectivity scenarios result from a complex interaction of device Wi-Fi drivers, access point firmware, access point configuration, and other environmental factors.

If following the steps in the provided links below fail to resolve your Wi-Fi issue I encourage you to create a new thread.

You will most likely have to do a REFRESH.  Most of us has had to do that.  For some reason or another the driver gets corrupted.  You may also do a trick that most others have done as well as long as you don't have the 8.1 Preview of Windows 8 RT installed.

That trick is to open the Control Panel and go do Device Manager.  Look for the Marvel WiFi adapter and "Uninstall" the driver but "DO NOT DELETE IT".  When finished, reboot the tablet and it should connect.

Try that trick first and if it doesn't work, then do a REFRESH.

Sorry to hear you are having problems connecting to WiFi.

You should be able to connect to WiFi. Are you getting any errors when trying to connect? Are you able to see the networks and not connect to them?

    There is something you might be able to try just in case the Windows 8.1 Preview does not fix the issue.  The Surface Pro can run another WiFi adapter in the USB port.  A RealTek branded WiFi adapter uses Cisco driver sets (generally) and may prove to be more compatible with your setup.  If it does work in that fashion, the MARVEL WiFi adapter can be disabled through the Device Manager.

    It may look stupid sticking out of the side of the tablet but could work.  The adapters cost about $10 - $20 each and you could try one on a tablet to see if it does the job.  If it doesn't, the adapter could be put on a desktop to give it WiFi - so the adapter would not go to waste.

    I have two of those myself but don't own a Surface Pro to test it with so I cannot verify if it would solve your particular issue.

    Worth looking into and you can do a web search for RealTek or also check with Cisco for compatible adapters.

    The RT users can't do that but the Pro models can.

    In Windows 8.1 Preview, there is supposed to be expanded support for VPNs but Cisco was not mentioned in the blurbs.  It will be a 'wait and see' deal.

    The particular WiFi adapters I have are: SABRENT USB 2.0 WIRELESS 802.11N (no model number listed)

    It has the RealTek chipset and you can look them up at http://www.sabrent.com

    Do contact their customer support though, they also offer the same model with RALINK chipset as well.
