Surface Duo Edge's Address Bar is missing or I don't know how to type url

I am not sure what is going on but when I have opened it Edge recently on Surface Duo, I cannot find how to type url. I don't see address bar.

SEE UPDATE ON WORKAROUND BELOW.

This is a bug in the current version and recent versions of Edge. I've reported it to the developers and they say they're working on it. The same holds for Edge Beta. For both, when you try to get to the setting screens you get the favorites page. I was able to revert back to an Edge Beta version from mid-January 2025 to get a version where both the URL and settings bug wasn't present.

So it's not your Surface Duo that is the problem. It's the app.

    I use Edge on all my devices. And on a Samsung Galaxy S10+ it works as it should - address bar is visible and functional. It's just the Surface Duo where I encounter the behavior described in the OP.

    This has been going on for several months. I reported it as well, but didn't get any reaction. I find it strange that this problem occurs on Microsoft's own device, but is absent on Samsung devices. I would expect MS Edge to work best on a Microsoft device.

    My workaround has been to put bing.com in the favorites and then, each time I want to type a URL, visit Bing via favorites and then type the URL into the search box. Altogether I find it disappointing that this problem has not been fixed yet after multiple months.

    WORKAROUND:

    I found a way to get the address bar back.

    1. Open a web page that has a url from the favorites on the home page.
    2. Go to the hamburger menu on bottom right of a page.
    3. Tap on find on page (scroll as necessary to find it).
    4. Tap the X top right. The url should appear.
    5. Then long press the URL and select move search bar to top.
    6. Close edge and restart. The Address Bar should not be visible and allowing entering a web site URL.

    Wow, nice!

    I can confirm that it works. I hope I don't have to do this again each time the app receives an update😅

    The settings menu still doesn't work though, so am hoping we will get an official update within the next 12 months🙂

    I'm using a version of Edge Beta from early January since the ability to get to the settings menu continues to be broken. I periodically update Edge (non-beta) to see if they've fixed this there, but so far they haven't.

    It's increasingly clear the Microsoft has abandoned the Surface Duo line and is feigning amnesia by not even acknowledging that it existed.
