Hi GLN277,
Thank you very much for your contribution at the Surface Community, I really appreciate it! I'm sorry to hear that your Surface RT hangs on the Surface logo screen. I see that you're trying to return the device since it's still under warranty; however, I'd
love to work with you to
resolve the issue because it's definitely worth trying to troubleshoot before finally deciding to send the device back.
I understand that you are stuck at the Surface logo screen - do you see the spinning dots underneath the logo as well?
I have found a thread on the forums that provides some troubleshooting steps:
- Press and hold the Power button until the Surface turns off
- Turn the Surface back on
- Repeat Step 1 and 2 approx. 3 times
- On the 3rd or 4th boot up, your Surface should load Automatic Recovery.
You should be able to get your Surface to load Windows RT.
If it doesn't and goes to a blue screen that says Automatic Repair with the message:
"Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC" and gives a Log file at:
C:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt
Follow these steps to get the Surface working again:
- Touch Advanced Options
- Touch Troubleshoot
- Touch Advanced Options (again)
- Touch Command Prompt
- Type the following: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM /P and press Enter
- Press Y to confirm and press Enter
- Close the command prompt
- Touch Troubleshoot
- Touch Reset your PC
- Touch Just remove my files
- Touch Reset to start the process
If the Delete command was successful, there will not be a message returned at the command prompt. If an error message is displayed, check to see that the command was entered correctly and try again. If the error message continues, the Surface will require
a service.
Please let me know if it helped!
