I am using a microsoft surface pro 3. Drivers are all Windows 10 and up to date. The app is up to date and the firmware for the adapter is up to date.  The wifi display adapter gets hotter the longer the hdmi cord. I've resolved the issue by shortening the cables. Now it only disconnects every once and a while.  The problem is Microsoft's adapter not the surface of laptops. Disappointing, but not totally unexpected.  I have been a Microsoft supporter since DOS, nothing ever goes as planned.

Try switching the Surface Pro 3 network adapter to the 2.4Ghz network.  Also, turn off Bluetooth.
