Wireless Display Adapter Disconnects

This device is not working properly. I suggest everyone return it and wait until Microsoft can fix this issue or put a better device on the market.

Thanks a lot for your update BChuck!  I totally agree that the Ms official is infuriating (I could'nt choose a better word). 

Though I never faced the sound disconnecting.  

The most frustrating thing IMO is that when it disconnects, there is no fast&easy way to reconnect.  You need to get to the charm bar and disconnects first, that takes sometimes more than 15 seconds.  Then after you're able to reconnect.

I'm starting to think that this is related to interferences.

As an IT admin, some of the answers received from the official Microsoft Support Engineer have been infuriating.

The OP stated multiple times they were using the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and the Microsoft Wireless Display adapter. There has been only one post up to this point where the user wasn't using all Microsoft Hardware and Software but considering they are having the same exact problem all the rest of us are, it leads me to believe it's not the HP unit they have.

Personally I think it's an issue with Miracast. I don't think the protocol is ready for prime time. Here is why I've come to that conclusion:

1. I have tried the following Windows 8.1 devices with a very similar results on all of them:

Microsoft Surface Pro 1

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (3 different units to rule out device issues)

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch

2. I have tried the following Miracast receivers:

Built in Sony 4K TV

Actiontec ScreenBeam Pro

Microsoft Wireless Display Adaptor (2 different units, and yes, I've downloaded the companion app and looked for driver updates. None yet.)

Results on ALL configurations have been unreliable. There is a difference between devices with the screen lag though. The SP3 + Microsoft WDA seems to be the best combo. At times, however, it'll stream nearly perfect for an extended period of time and give me false hope only to disconnect as soon as I want to demonstrate the capabilities to a coworker or I'm giving a presentation.

Often during video streaming with sound, the sound will get disconnected from the video and I'll feel like I'm watching and old Kung Fu movie. Usually after some screen glitches they'll re-align and be stable only to slowly get out of sync again. Extremely distracting when you are trying to watch a movie. That's if it stays connected at all.

Using the "Play" option in the charms menu for Metro/Modern/Universal Apps doesn't even seem to recognize the Microsoft WDA exist. The Screenbeam and Sony TV connect, but the result is an awful mess that results in me just using the screen mirroring feature instead.

The random screen lockups and disconnects is the worst though. I'd be one thing if this only occasionally happened, but this happens all the time. I've connected a Miracast device to the projector in the primary conference room at my workplace. The thought was we can pass the projector around as needed to different people as they are presenting without people moving around. It worked ok during the testing phase, but has since become so buggy that nearly all members of the weekly meeting ignore the WDA and pass around a long cable to attach to their devices. My CEO even muttered, "I've given up on that *expletive* thing. It's a waste of money if you ask me."

I want this technology to work RELIABLY so very badly, but I'm beginning to lose faith. Whenever my friends are demonstrating Chromecast or Apple TV it just works! The Microsoft WDA is a compact device that I can keep in my suit pocket. I would like to walk into a conference room, plug it into the projector/TV, and have confidence that my SP3 will connect. That confidence isn't there today.

Thank you for the update on the issue.

If issue still persist try to create new user account. If you create new account nothing will be lost, it is only the thing that it would be in the other user account which you are using right now. However creating new user account is a diagnostic step, if everything works fine in new user account we can easily move the files and programs to new user account.

1. Are all the device drivers updated?
2. Have you tried to contact the manufacturer of your computer? If yes what they have suggested?

Try to update the display drivers from the manufacturer's website and see if it helps.
