Using the adapter with my Surface Pro 3 and I'm seeing lots of disconnects especially during videos. Anyone else seeing this.

While Microsoft has abandoned this thread because there support for this product is horrible, to answer question yes and no. Depending on your tv power output you won't need it. Easy way to tell is if your not getting the max resolution output of 1080p. Then your going to need external power. I haven't had as much problems with mine lately but also check your display sleep settings also.
Same issue with my HP Envy 14 laptop.
Is your display adapter getting power from the TV? I wonder if its worth trying a AC-USB power supply. Maybe the USB power just isn't enough for power demands when video streams??
I have tried this with the same results. My surface, wifi router, and adapter are within 3' of each other. The adapter disconnects about every 10 minutes.
Sorry, this is my first post on this forum. I clicked the tab for helpful because it said 0 (zero) found this helpfull, and an option of "me to". As typical of support staff, this is a brushoff post that helps zero for the problem.
I'm really bothered by the disconnects - new Surface 5/15 with adapter on new tv and it disconnects about every 20 minutes and about one out of three causes a lockup of my wifi adapter which only resets by restarting the computer.
I've had no problem using the Microsoft Display Adapter. Once I figured out how to connect.
It seems slower than HDMI, no surprise here, and is a lower resolution, but has otherwise functioned as promised.
I have a SP3 , and an LG UB8500 tv.
Same exact problem with me too. I have a sp3 and just bought the MS WDA. It works perfectly for about 2-5 mins then I get the disconnected device sound and boom back to the screen saying Display Adapter is ready to connect. So every 2-3mins I have to keep re connecting it via the charms bar which defeats the whole point of having a device like this if I cant even watch a 5 min video without having to reconnect the device...
