I don't think the WDA uses your WiFi router, so replacing it wont matter.
When you say you updated the "driver" do you mean firmware of the device? Updating the firmware has fixed the problem for me (I believe).

I said I wanted to get a 5 GHz router because WDA uses the same frequency as the wifi adapter on my PC. So, if my PC is connected using 2.4 GHz, the WDA uses that frequency. I confirmed this using a wifi analyser.
I have tried with a 5GHz network and I still experienced the same issue despite my WDA reporting that it had the latest firmware and it was connected to the 5GHz network.
Still looking for a solution, though at this time, I have defaulted back to using a wired connection.
