Hi ajia23
I don't think the WDA uses your WiFi router, so replacing it wont matter.
When you say you updated the "driver" do you mean firmware of the device? Updating the firmware has fixed the problem for me (I believe).

Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Using the adapter with my Surface Pro 3 and I'm seeing lots of disconnects especially during videos. Anyone else seeing this.

I bought the push2TV3000 and with Windows 8 and a specific firmware version, it seemed to work well with my Thinkpad Helix i7.
I was very excited!
Then I had to update my SW to Windows 8.1 and I haven't gotten it to work consistently since for anything more than 20 minutes.
I updated all the drivers and saw the same behavior both with my Lenovo Thinkpad Helix and my LG G2 phone.
I purchased the Microsoft WDA hoping it was the Push2tv issue, but I am now experiencing the same disconnect after 10-15 minute issue.
I installed a wifi spectrum scanner on my phone and I see that the 2.4 GHz spectrum seems busy and so now I want to purchase a 5Ghz wifi router to rule out interference issues.
Does anybody know whether moving to 5 GHz will make any difference?
Same issue here. Had been using a Screen Beam Pro and connecting with SP1 and SP3 for ages with no problems. Recently have been using SP1 and it stopped connecting reliably. Figured it might be that the Screen Beam is old. Went and bought the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter for $98, bring it back to the office and have the very same connection problems. Try to download updated display driver but it won't install. I'm stuck. What's going on?
Problem: connects for a short while then freezes and is very difficult to reconnect. Same thing happened with the Screen Beam.
All windows updates are installed.
Thanks,
Ian
Same issue with my HP Envy 14 laptop.
Is your display adapter getting power from the TV? I wonder if its worth trying a AC-USB power supply. Maybe the USB power just isn't enough for power demands when video streams??
I have tried this with the same results. My surface, wifi router, and adapter are within 3' of each other. The adapter disconnects about every 10 minutes.
While Microsoft has abandoned this thread because there support for this product is horrible, to answer question yes and no. Depending on your tv power output you won't need it. Easy way to tell is if your not getting the max resolution output of 1080p. Then your going to need external power. I haven't had as much problems with mine lately but also check your display sleep settings also.
