Surface Book 3 Nvidia Graphics card disappears after updates.

I bought the Surface book 3 a few weeks ago. It just installed some updates and now my Nvidia card has disappeared from the device manger. 

It was working properly before the updates go installed so now I am suspecting it's something to do with the windows updates. My surface book hasn't received the latest 2004 windows update yet. I have already gone through the Nvidia driver experience app to manual install the graphics card driver but it says it can't detect any graphics card. I am pretty sure a brand new 3grand machine will not be equipped with a faulty graphics card, because that will be stupid. Will be contacting MS soon. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem.

    Just had this problem occur this weekend.  Originally thought it was from the Win ver 2004 update but after rolling back it Nvidia card still missing.  The SB 3 firmware update and Surface Diagnostic tools and had no luck with either.  

    Loaded the latest Nvidia driver and on second restart the card is finally recognized.

    I can confirm that this is a bug, at this point MSFT is still working with Nvidia.

    At this time there are 2 options:

    • Although it is not perfect, if you detach the screen and attach it the GPU becomes available.
    • Upgrade the Nvidia driver. I am using .5177 with no issues.

    I am happy that Microsoft is working on this as its a pretty serious bug on an expensive laptop.

    Detaching the screen doesnt always work for me. Sometimes it even doesnt pick up the keyboard and needs a cold boot.

    I will try the Nvidia driver update . Were did you get your driver from Nvidia directly as Device Manager and Windows update dont find any different drivers. Im using 26.21.14.4219 dated 29/1/2020

    May I know how you fixed it? I just tried Surface Diagnostic Kit, but it seems no individual graphic card test. I am trying to report to Microsoft directly.

    The Surface Diagnostic kit checks sometimes fixes the issue, it didnt for me. I used the following.

    1. I also find if you perform a cold boot and hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then power on as normal it magically appears in device manager.
    2. Uninstall/Install latest firmware.

    Occasionally the Nvidia GPU will vanish from Device Manager leaving you with  onboard Intel GPU with isnt good for games.  I suspect its happen a lot more with suspend/awake. 

    ** Please note I have logged this as a bug fix with Microsoft Surface team . It needs to be fixed in the next firmware/patch run. Not good for a new 2/3k premium laptop. **
