I bought the Surface book 3 a few weeks ago. It just installed some updates and now my Nvidia card has disappeared from the device manger.
It was working properly before the updates go installed so now I am suspecting it's something to do with the windows updates. My surface book hasn't received the latest 2004 windows update yet. I have already gone through the Nvidia driver experience app to manual install the graphics card driver but it says it can't detect any graphics card. I am pretty sure a brand new 3grand machine will not be equipped with a faulty graphics card, because that will be stupid. Will be contacting MS soon. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem.

Tech Support told me the Nvidia Card dropping out after resume or sleep was a known issue with 20H2.
My problem was that it did the same thing with a shutdown and reboot, so it's not a sleep thing.
Nothing you can do other than reinstalling drivers, over and over and over again while your passively cooled i7-1065G7 hit's 100C under minimal loads.
Appalling in a £2000 laptop. Heaven only knows how people use these for gaming, they struggle with Office and Youtube

Microsoft this is totally rubish. You do not test your operating system with your own laptops. So disappointing.
Tried disabling/enabling dgpu, dettaching screen. Nothing help
I can see NVIDIA visible in Device Manager/Display Adapters next to Intel Graphics
But in Device Manager/Monitors/Surface Display I can only see intel, before I could see NVIDIA there too.
Also screen detach keeps reporting false error, altough it works fine.
yes had same issue right out of box after the initial update, first it said the version of windows was not compatabile with the graphics card,,then later was not using Nvidia ,but was using standard windows graphics drivers ,so I deleted the Nvidia believing it would re-instal itself ,but it did not.Contacted both Microsoft and Nividia reps---Microsoft rep walked me thru downloading the correct Nividia Studio drivers,,then machine appeared to be ok,Rep said it had to do with 2004 update to windows and Microsoft would likely put out a fix for these newer machines.Til then dont use that update.
I can confirm that this is a bug, at this point MSFT is still working with Nvidia.
At this time there are 2 options:
- Although it is not perfect, if you detach the screen and attach it the GPU becomes available.
- Upgrade the Nvidia driver. I am using .5177 with no issues.

I can confirm the same issue, I am up to date with all NVIDIA drivers and windows updates.
Is there any update on this bug?
I followed this and then after a hard reboot it recognized the GEForce hardware. I then ran the MS Flight simulator 2020 and while loading the game crashed and then the GEForce display adapter disappeared from the device manager.
