Surface Book 3 Nvidia Graphics card disappears after updates.

I bought the Surface book 3 a few weeks ago. It just installed some updates and now my Nvidia card has disappeared from the device manger.

It was working properly before the updates go installed so now I am suspecting it's something to do with the windows updates. My surface book hasn't received the latest 2004 windows update yet. I have already gone through the Nvidia driver experience app to manual install the graphics card driver but it says it can't detect any graphics card. I am pretty sure a brand new 3grand machine will not be equipped with a faulty graphics card, because that will be stupid. Will be contacting MS soon. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem.

    ALL,

My company SB3 went through an update last night and now the keyboard will not respond. I know. I should not have done an automatic update but since it is my work machine I like to keep it up to date. I am writing this on my SB2 to see if anyone else has had the same issue over night. When I came in this morning there was the setup screen for Windows and now no keyboard capabilities. This is making me really angry and disgusted with Microsoft. Anyone up for a class action lawsuit?

This is now the fourth time this year that the graphics card disappears. Solve the problem or reduce the price for your stuff

Yeah, I’ve done most Windows updates manually through the update tool for now, but afaik I haven’t gone ahead and manually installed any surface firmware updates directly, which was something I did on my previous SB3.

The replacement I got was spotless though- so I have no complaints there.

I’ve tried the troubleshooter, doesn’t seem to be able to find the problem. It seems the settings app may be somehow “disconnected” from the update service.

Not sure I would trust the Microsoft with the return, unless I was getting a new SB3. Not installing firmware or updates will eventually cause issues for support and compatibility. I would also recommend apply the latest updates. I have done this since WIn10 on SB and PC with very little issues. Plus you will need update for Microsoft Defender A/V unless you have a third party.

Mines is okay since the 15/6 update, I will perhaps run a game for 1 day full to see how i get on. No loss of GPU so far from suspend/resume.

You could try the Win10 update troubleshooter, or some of the options below.

I know this isn’t a “solution”, but ever since sending my original SB3 15 inch in for a replacement, the replacement has worked fine - no gpu drops. For now though, I’ve mostly kept away from any of the firmware updates and things seem to be fine for now (plus I can’t really automatically update the device since there seems to be some bug on my installation).

Side question - does anyone know why a windows installation on my SB3 might get stuck on checking for updates in settings? This has persisted through in place upgrades and updates through the update tool.
