Surface Book 3 Nvidia Graphics card disappears after updates.

I bought the Surface book 3 a few weeks ago. It just installed some updates and now my Nvidia card has disappeared from the device manger.

It was working properly before the updates go installed so now I am suspecting it's something to do with the windows updates. My surface book hasn't received the latest 2004 windows update yet. I have already gone through the Nvidia driver experience app to manual install the graphics card driver but it says it can't detect any graphics card. I am pretty sure a brand new 3grand machine will not be equipped with a faulty graphics card, because that will be stupid. Will be contacting MS soon. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem.

I have to admit it has been less of a problem of late.
But I don't detatch the screen as often anymore - the party trick that sold me on this (ie 15" tablet of awesome).

NEXT time it'll be an overpowered custom desktop and a cheap tablet.

It is sad that Microsoft got it both so wrong on the THIRD attempt and doesn't care enough about those of us affected by this issue.

The problem is that most users don't even know that they have lost the use of their GPU since most of their apps simply don't engage it. I would bet the only reason that the individuals on this thread noticed the issue is because of their specific use cases with their computers. Otherwise, they wouldn't even know.

Regardless, once the machine begins to have issues users typically just give the machine a three finger salute or any of the other "remedies" that this thread have uncovered! I would venture a guess that this issue affects ALL SurfaceBook machines (I KNOW it affects both my SB2 and SB3). There is no difference.

There are NO fixes that last for any period of time that I know of. I've dealt with numerous, full blown Microsoft tech support sessions. I've had them exchange my Surface Book 3 for a new, not reconditioned one. Microsoft needs to figure out a fix that is far deeper than mere settings.

I've still got a 13" surface book 2 as well.

I too am unhappy with the default system graphics controller but after 12 months of nursing this PC have learnt to adapt...

    Hints

Download the latest driver I suggest installing NVIDIA GeForce Experience it updates itself automatically..

In Windows 10 open the app: NVIDIA Control Panel >Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings > High-performance NVIDIA processor > Apply

(this may revert back to windows ''auto select'' when the tablet is detached...)

Avoid letting the screen sleep when the driver is being utilized it will crash the graphics controller when awoken.

In Windows 10 open the app: Settings > Power and Sleep > Plugged In > Never

(You can train yourself to press the power button when finished with your computer .. Its not that hard)

The easiest way to wake a crashed card driver is using Device manager > Search for new Devices

l have used the NVIDIA GeForce Experience from day one. Something I started with my SBw/PB

forcing the High-performance NVIDA processor causes bluescreens often and won't let me detach without changing back to auto-select

I always change those to never, and I set it to do nothing when I close the lid

I have to keep the Device Manager open at all times. unfortunately very few games can handle a disappearing dGPU. so I can't play most of the games i own, or games on the Game Pass.
