I have a Surface Pro that is a little over 2 years old. About two weeks ago, the battery now reports "Plugged in, not charging" and seems stuck at 60%. I say seemed because if I unplug that AC adapter, it dies instantly. It also will die periodically while on the charger. I have two Microsoft AC adapters and neither of them seem to charge my device. I've tried all the Microsoft suggestions for this state, but none of them made any difference. Is there a way to diagnose if this is a hardware problem, or is this a new artifact from the latest updates? (My device reports it is up to date.) I never had any battery issues before (lucky, I suppose), and I've treated my surface pretty carefully. I'll be more than disappointed if it's crapped out already. I'll attach a battery report, but I don't think it tells me anything in particular. Well I think we have waited long enough for some sort of acknowledgement of progress on this issue. It has almost been 2 months since i've had a usable device. I'm going to bite the bullet and look at a new laptop. Looks like this paperweight is going to sit on my shelf indefinitely, at least until MS decides to update us.

Barb, This is what I'm talking about. many users frustrated with no action from MS, to the point of leaving the product. This is really a big issue that is just being sat on.

My SFP 3 currently in the same state as your. The battery voltage drops below 5.8v (i.e. 2.9v for each cell) and the protection circuit in battery controller cut off connection, that's why sometimes it shows battery not detected. Since some circuits still use battery current when the Surface is turned on using AC adapter, I would recommend you do not turn on the tablet, otherwise the battery voltage may go to very low and the battery itself will be dead completely within a few weeks. Regarding this issue with battery voltage, I have two question: Is there anyone who use Power Cover with bad SFP3? If yes, how is fluctuated the voltage of internal battery (indicated by some third party software, such as Hardware Info ( www.hwinfo.com )? Microsoft, please, issue some raw firmware that help charge battery at least once, otherwise it is dying because of low voltage.
