Surface 3 LTE has no internet on HSPA+ network

Actually the title says it all. I have a Surface 3 LTE which connects to the internet just fine! I'm using Vodafone on the Netherlands.

However, at some point I see that I have no internet. The indicator still shows I am connected. And it takes forever for the computer to come to the conclusion that there is a network to connect to (HSPA+) but there is no internet on it. After disconnecting if I want to reconnect I have to enter an APN of which I am pretty sure I have already done that!

A reboot fixes the issue. Then the tablet sees the LTE band/network again and I am happy internetting again.

Any thoughts?

    Hi Arnulfo,

its great to see that a MS company person actually reads our posts.

However your reply shows that you are miles away from the problem. This has nothing to do with the network. Or how do you explain that I get perfect connection with the Huawai surf stick?

It must be a problem withe the S3 Network hardware and/or network driver.

    Dear Arnulfo,

I fully agree with the KloppKopp and Plantje's conclusion. Please read the whole thread. That being said I would almost feel honoured by MS replying. Thank you, but give us something practical. It is most probably a matter of driver software checking and polling better, faster and more stable for a connection that supports and delivers internet. That's your department. That's where you can really help us and all who join us in grief, whilst you otherwise provided the world (IMHO) with a device that has a good future for combining so much beef in so light a structure.

"We always make sure that updates are sent out to make sure all your devices are up to date."

For which we are gratefull. Please give us one that will (seamingly easy, being only software) make our devices so much more fluent. If not, tell us in which time-frame we can expect a sollution or why not at all, so we can all stop hoping for deliverance.

@ Plantje: allthough the Dell looks good, 8" is too small for me. Like you, 12" too big (to carry with me everywhere). This size is perfect and I am bound to windows. I am testing this unit to almost full (!) satisfaction. Our normal gear is thoughbooks which feel like dinosaurs in comparison to the surface.

Thank U for reading Arnulfo, now please give us hope!

Most likely we will not hear anything back now...

Yesterday again I had to restart my entire tablet to get back on the interwebz. Strange thing is though...currently I am online on HSPA+ for over half an hour. Everything is smooth as a wistle!

    Hi Plantje and MICROSOFT,

Sailing over the river today I lost LTE after 30 mins. HSPA+, no internet. I know I shouldn't, but I tried to turn mobile off/on (can't get mobile off), airplanemode (mobile still doesn't go off), turn of Chrome (doesn't go off, even via taskman), break connection in mobile settings (that works, but then it starts asking for APN and never turn on anymore), disable modem in devmgmt.msc, then devmgmt.msc freezes, then restart, which freezes. This is all sooooo cumbersome!!

So I thought: I'll solve this issue for the remainder of the voyage next time by ignoring it and turn wifi hotspot on from my (always working on 4G+ even) phone. The tablet automatically picks up and connects to the SSID, but still Chrome won't work and is unkillable. So wifi signal appears to be working, but isn't: Very Frustrating!!

Next voyage I disabled (after restart) the modem in devmgmt right away. Now hotspot SSID works. So the only solution for me that works the whole way is shutting LTE off alltogether, if else Wifi is not working either (after mobile goes to HSPA+). Which makes me sad to have bought the much more expensive (for me at that time I really spend an extra €300 for it) LTE-version.

Craving for answer: MICROSOFT PLS HELP!!! This is a long known issue now.

    Regards, Aart

Yes, a little bit further in my trip this morning I got the "HSPA+, no internet" again as well. Sometimes it does work to disconnect, wait a while and reconnec, but in most cases it starts asking for an APN. In which case you are screwed.

This morning I was almost at the office, so I thought to let it be for a while. And same as you: I also had issues with WiFi while in the office. I needed to restart the tablet not only to get LTE to work again, but also to let WiFi work again.

But, mark my words: we will not get a (helpful) response on this one! If resetting the device, dsim /online, wsreset, reinstall the drivers etc doesn't work Microsoft support seems to be lost.

In the Netherlands you can't really get support on the LTE part as the tablet officially was never sold in the Netherlands, but I am pretty sure people in other countries experience the same issues.

Let's see what happens...I guess...nothing. I mean: the official answer is to contact the provider. The provider has worked with me high and low! This really is not their issue! As shown before: my cell phone sitting next to the tablet on the same network does get internet on LTE. And if it switches to HSPA+ occasionally (I have to admit that) it doesn't get internet either...but: it will switch back to LTE, UMTS or whatever without the need to restart! That's all I'm asking for.

I do understand this is not something that is fixed over night, but it has been 4 months since I last heard people working on this.
