Yellow tint on Surface Book Screen

I have a really noticeable yellow tint stain on all sides of my Surface Book. I spent well over 3 grand roughly a year or two ago on this "State of the Art" machine and now this? I need this fixed - how do I get this resolved? If its past the time limits you still need to fix this issue, I have seen too many posts on this now and it seems like faulty equipment - not something we should have to have already on this machine we invested so much into!!

My son was complaining of problems with his surface book 2 at college.  Just brought it home to diagnose and discovered this issue. His screen is not bulging yet, but he has distinct yellowing on the bottom of the screen which reacts when pressure is applied. With the knowledge gained from this website I now regret having just purchased a Surface Book 3 for my daughter who is starting her freshman year.  Microsoft needs to own up to this design flaw and treat its customers right.  I spent way more than I could have by assuming that doing so would guarantee a quality product for my hard working students.

I just had a thought.  Any chance you can explain your situation in a letter to Mr Trump?  I'm sure he'd have a lot to say on the subject :-D MS may even listen then if it's in an international tweet.  I think it's the fastest way to get this resolved :D

Thank you for this enlightening insight. Certain issues you raised confirm, I have been have my problem for over 2+ years. The primary issues was over 2 years ago, I needed to go the my MS Store with an issue and when I went to close my laptop, it did not close completely. I was a little surprised but thought it was due to maybe some dust in the Detached screen system. When I got back home, I detached the screen and cleaned it out and re-attached it to the keyboard but could not close the laptop. It has been this way, as I said, for 2+ years. I have had the SurfaceBook for over 4 years now but last year I had to travel to my MS store 4 times for issues and not once did anyone mention a battery problem. It sounds like a Class Action ready to happen.

It reared this past weekend only because of the extreme heatwave in California. I live 1.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean and we had temps from 92-106 degrees for Saturday and Sunday. It was the heat on Saturday that the yellow smudge showed up. Then when you mentioned the screen is bulging, I looked at my Surface and surprise, surprise, the right side upper corner has split opened. Even if I contact them and am elevated to a Replacement Specialist, with a 4+ year SurfaceBook, they would only offer me a refurbished or fix mine. God knows how long they would have the Surface and it is the only computer I have. I may get legal action involved and see if they can replace it with a new one since the issue has been within the unwritten 3 year window. Besides, a refurbished likely would have little to know warranty. I may just have to look for another brand.

Sadly, as a disabled person, in a wheelchair due to spinal column deterioration, the staff at the MS store always saw me in my motorized wheelchair (thank goodness I am a veteran and the VA covers these costs), but all NEVER even mentioned anything about this growing problem with their batteries.

    VERY SAD

I have been in contact with MS Support four times in the last few days and still waiting for resolution. I've been kicked up to a 'Replacement Specialist' and waiting to get an update. It looks like they may send me a replacement. (Fingers crossed). So far I've given them my contact information 3 separate times, uploaded a video and photos of the problem to their customer support portal, spoken to 4 different customer support staff (and been disconnected by 2 more).

Here's what I've gathered after multiple conversations and my own research online:

    1. The battery inside the unit is expanding, overheating and pushing on the screen. That is causing the yellowing and a growing bulge on the screen.
    2. This has been a common and known issue not only with the Surface Book, but other Surface laptops.
    3. Normal warranty on the units is 1 year, but there is an unwritten extended 3 year warranty if you're having this issue. However, for people who've had their units longer than 3 years, it seems that MS is offering to fix or replace (with a refurbished unit) for about $600.
    4. Was advised to discontinue using the unit and to not recharge it.
    5. Since MS has closed its stores, support is available only by phone 1-800-642-7676 or online chat

    To be continued......

UPDATE 1: Weeks and many more phone calls, chats and emails later, I am still waiting for the special return packaging they said they'd mail me for sending in my defective laptop. Their instructions stipulate that I MUST use this packaging because of the hazardous condition of the laptop. What was supposed to arrive in 2-3 days is now taking almost 4 weeks. MEANWHILE, their instructions also warn that if I do not return the laptop within 30 days of the original service order, they will cancel it. Hmmmm, sounds like a trick to me. I got a customer service specialist to email me a statement saying my case will not get cancelled due to their delays. We'll see......To be continued.

UPDATE 2: The return box finally arrived after almost 4 weeks. I mailed the defective unit back and in about a week, I received a replacement. The unit looks like new, but I'm sure it's a refurbished one that maybe only had small issues.... So far, it seems to be working. Although I did notice that the screen is not 100% flat (tested with a straight edge). Hopefully this will not become a bigger problem. There's a slight bit of light bleed the screen, but not bad. So, in total, it took about 1-1/2 months to resolve.

Footnote: I only fell within the 3-year free replacement warranty because my original Surfacebook had a problem 5 months after purchase (a one inch section of the touchscreen stopped working) and MS replaced it. That re-set the warranty clock. Otherwise I would've fallen just outside the warranty period. Funny how the units start to malfunction just after that 3 year window. Planned obsolescence?

I have the same issue on my Surface book. It showed up just o September 5th. Was never there prior. I have all the recommended set up changes like night light off, etc. Granted, San Diego County has been having unusual heat Saturday and Sunday the 5th and 6th. Was wondering if I turn of the computer for say, 24 hours, the mark may go away. OR is there an approved Microsoft app that can be downloaded from the App Store to 'fix' it.

Can't take it to a Microsoft store in the San Diego region because THEY ARE ALL CLOSED!!!! I am in a wheelchair, so traveling has its challenges.

Chatted with a MS Tech earlier this morning and updated everything from windows updates to running diagnostic tools to updating Drivers and firmware. Mark is still there.

An app would be great. BTW, I had saw some earlier notes that one could download and app called "Screen Burn, Test and Repair" or something like that. When I went to the app store and clicked the 'get' button, I am told I have it yet when I search all my apps this one is not there. So cannot figure out how to access it, or where to initialize it.

    Maybe someone else know how
