Well, I tried living with my yellow lines on my Surface until it turned off while I was typing. I followed the instructions I found online to try to get it to comeback on, but it didn't work. Since I was on vacation, I took it to the nearest MS Store and the employee tried the same fixes I did and he couldn't get it to work either. Since it was no longer under warranty, he told me I could replace it for $600.
I left my Surface alone for about 7 days, I was surprised when I was able to turn it back on. I didn't make it to the logon screen because it started smoking on the left-hand side of the computer screen. MS elevated my issue, I emailed and sent pictures (Which you can't see anything on it. They didn't want me to plug it back up to try and capture a picture of the smoke.).
I received this response today from Microsoft support:
"Our engineers have completed their review of your case and pictures. An order can be created for you to have your Surface and power supply shipped to our service center. There they will be inspected, repaired, replaced or returned based on their need. As your Surface is out of its warranty period there would be a charge of 599.00 USD plus any applicable taxes to create the order. If you would like to add to or change the credit card information on your Microsoft account, please visit our support site here.
If you would like to proceed with this order, please let me know and I will set it up for you."
I filed a Consumer Protection Complaint against Microsoft.
