It was suggested that I open a new thread for this issue that I am having.
Since the Win 10 Anniversary update, I was not able to turn on my Surface Pro 3 i7 512GB with LGC LGC Battery without having it plugged in with the power supply or docking (I own a total of Three Surface Pro 3 Docks at home and 2 offices). It always said "82%, Plugged in, Not Charging", and would always instantly turn off once I pulled off the power supply tab.
I had spoke with a Technical Agent online, had my Pro 3 remote accessed, did all the proposed solutions, and even had a call from Bellevue, WA (I live in Hong Kong) before I found out that it was a software issue as stated by Microsoft.
With Auto Update turned on, I was notified that I should restart my Pro 3 this morning while I was on the docking station. I was happy that this issue was going to be resolved, but now I am disappointed that this firmware update did nothing for my Pro 3.
I'm hoping that someone out there has some suggestions.

At this point i am diagnosing the issue personally to confirm if it is indeed the FW as suspected (something the community was expecting MS to do).
My device has been sitting on a shelf for over a year now waiting for this issue to be fixed, and MS has made it quite clear through silence that they simple don't care enough to solve the issue.
I'd rather swap the boards in my 2 devices to find the root cause than to pay ms $600 here in Canada to get a refurb device.
these are really non repairable. if you open the cases, you will probably brick
the tablets.

It will be very interesting to know what you find/how it goes BelalK. I'm sure you are up to date with this long standing problem that started 24-18 months ago, so I'm sure you are aware that it's not just the LG battery version, it's all Surface Pro 3s regardless of which of the two battery manufacturers that started "not charging" and turning to bricks. It was blamed on software updates, however as none of the much talked about/promised software updates seemed to fix any of the semi-bricks and was far too late for the many already total bricks (including mine about 6-8 weeks out of it's one year warranty when it died over a year ago). For those coming to this forum more recently the original thread on this massive, costly problem (for Surface Pro 3 users) has been continuously broken up so they do not realise the extent of the problem or what has been going on. Many of the original people on the original thread have long given up on here, so I will be looking forward to what you find and how it goes. Good luck BelalK and please update us!
So I finally had a chance to complete the swap.
I took apart my i3 SP3, and unfortunately cracked the screen in the process. I used playing cards and a heat gun. I went very slow, but this had no effect. The screen cracked after a few centimeters of me sliding the card through the adhesive. The screen is more brittle than a premium plus cracker. In addition to this, the adhesive on these devices is insane. It's almost tar like and will not give at all. Luckily the screen was still able to display content which was helpful for testing.
Before i took apart the i5 surface, i made sure to update the FW to the latest version.
Once i had both the i5 and the i3 surfaces apart, i put the i5 board inside my i3 device. The i3 had the issue of "plugged in, not charging"
Unfortunately, the device still showed the same plugged in not charging error on boot. This is pointing to a battery failure instead of a FW issue.
The next thing i'm going to try is swapping the charging boards between devices. If this still does not work, then it would completely confirm a battery failure.
This is really unacceptable if it does end up being a battery failure, as my device only had 124 cycles on it based on the powercfg report.
Kindly note the battery make and model. a lot of what i have been reading suggest that LGC (versus, SIMPLO) batteries are the ones that can no longer charge. many speculate that the battery may be good, but the hardware controller is no longer compatible with whatever firmware was pushed. your post appears to be the first for anyone trying to test hardware v firmware.
