Surface Pro 3 LGC Battery Degradation

It was suggested that I open a new thread for this issue that I am having.

Since the Win 10 Anniversary update, I was not able to turn on my Surface Pro 3 i7 512GB with LGC LGC Battery without having it plugged in with the power supply or docking (I own a total of Three Surface Pro 3 Docks at home and 2 offices). It always said "82%, Plugged in, Not Charging", and would always instantly turn off once I pulled off the power supply tab.

I had spoke with a Technical Agent online, had my Pro 3 remote accessed, did all the proposed solutions, and even had a call from Bellevue, WA (I live in Hong Kong) before I found out that it was a software issue as stated by Microsoft.

With Auto Update turned on, I was notified that I should restart my Pro 3 this morning while I was on the docking station. I was happy that this issue was going to be resolved, but now I am disappointed that this firmware update did nothing for my Pro 3.

I'm hoping that someone out there has some suggestions.

Thank You.

I think I have this problems too. My Surface Pro 4 (i5, 8G, 256G) could only use 3 hours.

I've got some good news myself, though I wish it could be good news for all of you. After the 29th August my SP3 went from over 4 hours of charge to between 1.5 and 2.5 hours, and also had the symptom of dropping from 10% to powering down in a matter of seconds. For no apparent reason, this changed today.

I ran it for an hour from 10am to 11am doing internet forum reading and posting with the battery saver on and the screen at 75%. I was very surprised to see that the battery reported 88% capacity and predicted 9 hours and 9 minutes further usage. It would normally be under 50% with an hour or so predicted.

Then from 1pm onwards I left it running a video over and over on full screen. I kept the battery saver on and the screen brightness at 75%. At 4pm it reported 36% remaining and predicted a further 2 hours 28 minutes.

It got to 10% at 5:02pm and then promptly reported 7% and turned off, so that symptom is still there. But it lasted a total of 5 hours and 2 minutes!

Update History shows that there have been no updates since Windows 1607 was installed on the 30th of September, so I have no idea what caused the Surface to regain its battery. If it's simply taken over a month to calibrate, then there must be something wrong with the battery calibration software. And I note that the predictions are now too high.

Edit: Almost forgot to say that although the SP3 had been running very hot during the period when the battery capacity was reduced, it seems to run quite cool now.Oh, and it still says 'Not charging' while it's in the dock.

The LGC Battery issue recently happened to me, and I jumped from having around 5+ Screen on Time to about 2 ish with battery saver and airplane mode on, maybe take a look at my logs and see if anything can be done.

    update!

Well I couldn't stand it any longer.  I finally decided to send my SP3 in and have the battery replaced.  Got it back and it works great with a new simplo battery about 11 hrs of battery life with a 100% charge.  I wish I could say that this forum provided any help or even comfort at all, but it didn't.  I feel really let down by the MS team.  It seems the moderators have no power to escalate anything to MS (and no desire to really do any troubleshooting) and MS doesn't really care about the users enough to update this thread with updates.

I Hope that MS identifies there is an issue with their product trouble escalation procedures, and can correct it. The SP3 is a great product, but the battery issue could've been a much less frustrating problem if MS got involved and communicated well to the consumers.

Hope the rest of you get an answer from MS soon. good luck.

My battery is terrible now. I still have a Warranty at staples I'm returning it. This is a headache now. I spent all this money and now I can't take it off the charger. I have laptops that are 10 years old and wayyyy cheaper then the 1000$ I spent on it and they have a battery life of 4 hours. Don't waste your money on surface pros if they a really like this after having one for a year. And Microsoft isn't even doing anything about it other than working on an update. I'm very disappointed with the money I spent.
