Surface Pro 3 LGC Battery Degradation

It was suggested that I open a new thread for this issue that I am having.

Since the Win 10 Anniversary update, I was not able to turn on my Surface Pro 3 i7 512GB with LGC LGC Battery without having it plugged in with the power supply or docking (I own a total of Three Surface Pro 3 Docks at home and 2 offices). It always said "82%, Plugged in, Not Charging", and would always instantly turn off once I pulled off the power supply tab.

I had spoke with a Technical Agent online, had my Pro 3 remote accessed, did all the proposed solutions, and even had a call from Bellevue, WA (I live in Hong Kong) before I found out that it was a software issue as stated by Microsoft.

With Auto Update turned on, I was notified that I should restart my Pro 3 this morning while I was on the docking station. I was happy that this issue was going to be resolved, but now I am disappointed that this firmware update did nothing for my Pro 3.

I'm hoping that someone out there has some suggestions.

Thank You.

Restore isn't the same as a wipe and reinstall from a downloadable recovery image.

Get the Windows 10 image from https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/downloadablerecoveryimage

As long as you were previously running Windows 10 and it was activated, you should be fine.

    Barb,

I have the same issue as AndyD it sounds like. I did do a restore on my SP3 and now the three of the four firmware drivers have errors. The battery will not charge at all (See my posted battery report earlier) even though it reports capacity.

My point is, after doing the restore I have lost the ability to go back to Windows 10 without buying it now. So please be careful with restore. I wouldn't mind buying it if I knew it would fix the battery issue, but it seems that if I never did the upgrade to Windows 10 then I wouldn't be messaging on this board.

I dont understand how software can break the hardware so badly. This has to be something shorted in the hardware.

    Thanks,

    Henry

    thanks

there is nothing on the tablet now that i need as i rarely use it  after having reinstalled a few times  windows 8 and windows 10 so there would be no problem wiping it again

I will try the recovery image later tonight and see if it makes any difference

Nope - have not heard back and I asked twice; and while I hate to say this, I

don't think that this is either of the two issues that have shown some trending

with the LGC batteries (one that started AFTER the SIMPLO firmware update).

I think your only option is to plug in, not dock the tablet, and use a

downloadable recovery image to wipe everything and reinstall Windows 10 from

    https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/downloadablerecoveryimage

And if you still have issues, you probably will need to go for the (another)

    $450 out of warranty replacement.

You originally stated you had this issue since February. I don't know at what

point the firmware updates stopped getting applied..

Have you heard any more  about the error code 14 on the device manager embedded controller firmware

I can only install hardware updates ,but firmware updates  keep saying restart to complete the update

everytime i turn the surface on it tries to update but fails everytime

My battery is back to  showing  0% not charging
