Surface Pro 3 LGC Battery Degradation

It was suggested that I open a new thread for this issue that I am having.

Since the Win 10 Anniversary update, I was not able to turn on my Surface Pro 3 i7 512GB with LGC LGC Battery without having it plugged in with the power supply or docking (I own a total of Three Surface Pro 3 Docks at home and 2 offices). It always said "82%, Plugged in, Not Charging", and would always instantly turn off once I pulled off the power supply tab.

I had spoke with a Technical Agent online, had my Pro 3 remote accessed, did all the proposed solutions, and even had a call from Bellevue, WA (I live in Hong Kong) before I found out that it was a software issue as stated by Microsoft.

With Auto Update turned on, I was notified that I should restart my Pro 3 this morning while I was on the docking station. I was happy that this issue was going to be resolved, but now I am disappointed that this firmware update did nothing for my Pro 3.

I'm hoping that someone out there has some suggestions.

Thank You.

Okay I've had some recent success.

Can some other people who are experiencing issues see if changing power settings helps?  Specifically check that the computer does not turn off and go to sleep at the same time when plugged in (mine was set to do both at 10 mins)

Also make sure the network does not stay enabled in sleep mode.  Right now my battery is detected and seems to work.  It is unwilling to charge past 97% but boy can I live with that if it stays working otherwise.

I had to replace a Surface Pro 3 for different issue a few weeks ago, and Microsoft sent the replacement with the fan/heat/battery issue… so i'm assuming the refurbs would have the same issue.  They don't care.  They are done making them anyway, and they probably figure we will just go to the 4, or hopefully, the 5 and line their pockets some more.

Steve Ballmer introduced the Surface, made a TON of money, then retired a couple of years after that.  Now, Satya Nadella is the CEO. Why would the new guy care about the previous issues when he can just move forward?  Nadella is too concerned with LinkedIn and the Surface Pro 5 to even think about an old device that isn't even going to be produced anymore.

What about the consumer, you ask?

    What about 'em?

Think about Office, and they way it's licensed.  Think about the Windows 10 aggressive updates and the nightmare of any OS repair/reimage after upgrading to 10.  Not fixing the SP3 issue seems like another scheme to me.

Microsoft is just a big ol' a**h***.

I've given up -- I spent a fortune on my SP3 i7 512 in the fall of 2014 and now I can only use it when I have access to an outlet.  I was a big fan of the SP3 until this battery boondoggle and I'm totally bummed but I need something truly mobile.  Just bought an HP Envy 15t Touch with pimo everything for 50% off on HP's site.  Never again, MSFT, never again.  ☹️

To my knowledge here is what has been tried:

    Complete factory reset

    Format and reinstall

    delete drivers and re-install

    Manually reinstall drivers

Replace the battery (there are services that will do this, but it does not resolve the problem, expect to pay 200-250, these services are not MS)

Send in for refurb ($450, this option might work, but it has been reported as not working in the past)

As far as I know there is no way to roll back the firmware nor do I think anyone has pinpointed what actually causes the problem.

I'd say good luck, but our only hope seems to be MS fixing it, however they seem to be sweeping it under the rug as fast as they can.

My advice continues to be never buy another surface.

I'm guessing there is no way to turn back the firmware? I have tried searching for this, but have not found a tutorial.

It really is a disappointment for a product like this. It seems as though you can never escape fatal flaws in a product even though it is touted as a Tier 1 top shelf item, it might as well be part of the bottom of the barrel of options. This tablet is luckily covered by Costco Concierge and a Squaretrade extended warranty so I will likely end up using those. Hope it isn't an arduous process.

I will surely be extremely cautious in the future buying any product of this level, sure as heck will wait for a while after a product gets launched to see if it has issues. I have seen this happen more than once and not just to me. It's something special really, a company is able to put out a premium product and then have it become defective, put in minimal effort to correct it, then wash their hands of it. Hopefully tech news in general will cover the following events and tarnish Microsoft's reputation, as it should and has been.

I recently did a complete reset of the tablet, it's a hail mary, but would be nice if it fixed the issue.

This will surely leave all kinds of bad tastes in my mouth. Another disappointment, there's no way in **** I'll be able to resell this tablet for anything worthwhile now.

    Such is life...
