I am on my second keyboard/cover for my new Surface Pro 11 and am experiencing the following issue: On some startups -- not the majority of them -- the keyboard does not pair with the Surface Pro unit. The only solution has been to detach the keyboard from the unit and reattach it. I have cleaned the contacts (although this issue arose almost immediately out of the box after purchase), and followed a few other suggestions that I found online. One thing I have not done is reinstall the drivers. I can't imagine that they are out of date and a check of each says that they are up to date and the best drivers for the unit.) So, my question is this: if two different, new keyboards have experienced the same problem, does it sound like the issue is with the Surface unit itself? And if so, what other remedies are there before I turn it over to an expert?

Frustrated to see no response or acknowledgement from Microsoft on this.
I didn't buy an over priced keyboard to have it not work.
Also lets not forget that constantly having to detatch and attach it puts stress on the hinge / connection which in older models eventually tore along the seam.
Be sure to see Miles' post on 1/31/25 for workarounds. I've found them to be effective.
They don't let Microsoft off the hook for solving what is obviously a problem, but they will prevent having to detach and reattach the keyboard.
This might have been fixed in KB5058499 (currently public preview).
I don't have this issue at all anymore on my Surface Pro 11 (I don't use sleep but hibernate).
[USB] Fixed: Certain USB devices might become disconnected after sleep, until you reboot your PC.
We'll see. That isn't an accurate description of the problem--it's not a USB device, and the problem happens *at* reboot. But if it's solved, great!
I manage it by pressing the power button before I open the keyboard (thanks Miles!), but it would be nice not to have to.

Half the people reporting here are talking about sleep/hibernate.
It might well be that the device is connected hardware wise like an USB device.
I advise you to check nonetheless if this fixed the issue, they might have had the same root cause.
