Keyboard on new Surface Pro 11 does not always pair with unit upon startup

I am on my second keyboard/cover for my new Surface Pro 11 and am experiencing the following issue: On some startups -- not the majority of them -- the keyboard does not pair with the Surface Pro unit. The only solution has been to detach the keyboard from the unit and reattach it. I have cleaned the contacts (although this issue arose almost immediately out of the box after purchase), and followed a few other suggestions that I found online. One thing I have not done is reinstall the drivers. I can't imagine that they are out of date and a check of each says that they are up to date and the best drivers for the unit.) So, my question is this: if two different, new keyboards have experienced the same problem, does it sound like the issue is with the Surface unit itself? And if so, what other remedies are there before I turn it over to an expert?

Can someone please tell me how I can determine if I have received this update that everyone is posting about? I am up to date on updates, and I have checked my update history, but I can't tell which update might have been the "fix" for this ongoing problem. Thanks.

If you look in update history, Other updates, it should be there.

Hi All,

So heres my latest findings.

Immediately after the update it was working. Saw the curser on the user screen and it worked after a couple reboots. Next morning, not so much.

What I am finding now, is that it's not a fix. I read the release notes, and nothing was referenced in it for this.

For some reason (after I shutdown) leave the keyboard in the down position for a few minutes while its off. And then gently close it after a few minutes, it's more likely to work the next day. I'm still testing various things however I keep going back to the hinge mechanism closing to quickly or forcefully.

Thanks John. All info is good right now. It's crazy we have to do our own test bench fixes!

Agreed! Way too much money for these things with all these issues.

Mines been working for a week now. Just shut down, leave off for 5 min then come back and gently close the keyboard. After that, it works on every boot now.

I'm having the same issue. Changed keyboards and the problem so I returned the surface pro 11 for a new computer. However, the problem continues within this computer too.
